We have had great luck with the Porteranthus (Gillenia) Pink Profusion and the tried and true Tiarella Elizabeth Oliver. BTW Large deciduous trees benefit from lightening the canopy - reduces the weight, improves air circulation - leverage that to bring more light in - that’s worked for us in very difficult areas

Interesting. I like the discussion , some of the plants I have never seen in Midwest America. But the pints and design tips are very relevant to any shade gardening.

All very beautiful. Will save this video for future reference in case my geranium macrorrhizum, hellebores, and sweet woodfuff seeds don't germinate.

Epimedium (Barrenwort) is a low growing plant that will take dry shade once established. There are many varieties. Small blossoms in spring. 🌺 Brunneria has done well in a shady “woodland” part of my yard. Sprays of blue flowers in spring and interesting leaves. 🌺 I would love to plant lamium, but I’m afraid it would get away from me (I’ve heard horror stories). I might try it in a big pot and see if it overwinters.

One plant I never hear about is Skutellaria Altissima. I grow it in dry shade. It self seeds and spreads. It achieves a look similar to catmint. Bushy clump.

Would the concept and the choice of plants displayed still work in a shady border with lawn in front? No trees in the border just simply a northerly aspect. Thank you

Yes that would still be fine for these plants
