This is great. This is the fishing I'm into, no sounder no extra stuff necessary, 1 rod, no ice, home by 9am and fish filleted by 9:30am :)

Thats awesome! Remember that you don't need all the flashest gear, good second hand gear works a treat and gets you out there, I started with gear cobbled together from all sorts of places - most of it had been extensively pre loved but it still did the job! Cheers!!!

Cool tips, it would be awesome to see this theory put to the test in an area you have never fished, dived (not your local) or seen on a sounder before as an experiment. I travel all over NZ kayak fishing including freshwater and find different areas require a different approach. I love my fish finder and use it to hunt fish with jigs yet not so much in the shallows against the coast. Have fished without one plenty of years but prefer to use one, besides its a tool in the tackle box and no different to a mechanic these days who uses much more high tech gear (computer plug in to vehicle) than the good old feeler gauges and timing by ear :-)
@KerryFlowers
@KerryFlowers 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I get what you are saying but these tips were put to the test during the first 4 years of my kayak fishing where I was on too much of a tight budget to afford a fishfinder, and that is the point of this video. It is not about it being better not to have a fish finder - more like a few tips for those who are just getting started kayak fishing and have budget constraints preventing them from affording a fish finder....Cheers!!!

Wow, here in Perth Australia snapper legal size is 50cm and 2 per fisher a day. Plus we have a closed season from Sept 1st till Jan 29th for snapper spawning which was bought in by recreational fishos after a big snapper kill here. Think yourself lucky there
@KerryFlowers
@KerryFlowers 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah we are very fortunate here, we are allowed 7 per person per day and the minimum size is 30cm (nose to the fork of the tail) I do think that there is a good argument to have a closed season while spawning takes place but it is unlikely to happen as snapper stocks here seem to be holding steady despite the fishing pressure that they receive...Cheers!!!

@@KerryFlowers oh I see. Interesting. Is that anything to do with breading or just flavour isnt there??
@KerryFlowers
@KerryFlowers 4 жыл бұрын
@@PhantomMantis1 It is a bit of both, research suggests that the larger fish produce a massive amount more eggs/sperm than their smaller counterparts, and while the flavour is the same the meat becomes corser and tougher as the fish get larger - I'd rather eat those melt in the mouth fillets off the smaller fish...
