Great video. I loved the references to the manual. That e2 manual has a lot more information than what curt has with the hitch i bought. At first, i didn't see how raising or lowering the hitch on the truck could change the weight distribution. But take out a piece of paper and sketch out where the bars are in relation to the trailer frame. Do an exaguration, and you will see how the end of the bars are closer to the frame with the ball higher and further from the frame with the ball lower because of the change in angle of the trailer frame.

I’ve always thought that reading the owners manual was the best way to figure these things out, although I do think they are missing some helpful info at times. Thinking about it, I can see how the ball height could change things because the trailer tilts one way or the other. That would definitely affect the bar angle.

I'm glad it was helpful! Hopefully your dealer is reasonably competent, and gets your setup close to correct. Be sure to recheck measurements with your TT and Truck loaded and ready to camp. If it doesn't tow effortlessly, don't be afraid to make adjustments. Happy Towing!

Thanks ! (Btw, a second thanks too: recently installed an electric hitch jack and had issues with it blocking my lift gate. Never thought about rotating it like you did…heading out to field adjust!)
@mountainsintomemories7 ай бұрын
I really liked having the jack sideways, I’m not sure why they don’t come that way from the factory. If you don’t want to go through the trouble of rotating it, check out our video from 2 weeks ago, about Jack-E-Up which allows the jack to be completely removed when hitched up.

You are so right on so many points; Thank you for clarifying the Hitch Ball lean gives more distribution. And how you took the video gave me an instant picture of that lean and i get it.

Thanks great video. I just bought a 2500 hemi too. Love it. Setting my hitch up this weekend. I had to buy a drop shank too. Our first trip is in a week and half with our new truck. We just changed tow vehicles and need to adjust the height of the ball and hitch. To disassemble and reassemble the bolts, is it advisable to use a heavy duty adjustable plumbers wrench instead of the ratchet with socket?
@mountainsintomemories2 жыл бұрын
I can’t imagine it would hurt anything. You’ll need a big one to get the bolts torqued.
@Placek774 Жыл бұрын
I noticed your L-bracket bolts are on the down side of the frame. I think l need to do that because my L-brackets are moving front to back. I have to tighten them every trip. Your thoughts??
@mountainsintomemories Жыл бұрын
Did you post about this on Facebook recently? If so, I seen the post. I didn’t install those, the dealership did; and I’ve never changed it. I have to tighten them occasionally, maybe 3 times in 3 years.
@Placek774 Жыл бұрын
@@mountainsintomemories no l didn't post on Facebook. The way you have them seems to be the better way. Having the bolts at the top seem far away from the point of friction and would have more pressure on the nuts.
@mountainsintomemories Жыл бұрын
I agree. Someone else was having the same problem as you, they were moving all the time. I think they determined to flip them over, to be like mine. It’s definitely worth a shot.
@buckmanly1635 Жыл бұрын
Quick question. I’ve got the same hitch as you E2. How much friction shoukd there be where the sway bar rubs the bracket? Mine is really tight.
@mountainsintomemories Жыл бұрын
There should be a good bit, that’s what keeps your trailer from swaying.

Great video! I just got a 21 Ram 2500 6.4 last week and traded in my 16 GMC 1500, our TT's are about the same size and i was wondering about the WD hitch that i had. So far i did use the last holes on my 5 inch drop but haven't tried the bars yet and the trailer does sit almost even with truck. I hoping with a loaded trailer and truck i should be good. I will find out this weekend on our trip to Coloma RV Park. I will follow you on your adventures via youtube and take any advise you give.

Good Deal! Was your GMC a 5.3 or 6.2? If you had the 5.3 you should notice a big difference in power with your RAM. I had the 6.2 in my GMC and seems like I have a little more with the HEMI and 4.10 gears. The last holes on your shank should be close, I'm right about there and using 5 washers. I have a good bit of weight in the front of my trailer and quite a bit over the rear axle of the truck as well.
@721bad173 жыл бұрын
@@mountainsintomemories I had the 5.3 and this 6.4 is awesome!- my new 2500 has the 3.73 gears so I will see how she does
@mountainsintomemories3 жыл бұрын
@@721bad17 you'll still come ahead with the Hemi, especially if your GM had their typical 3.23 gearing.

@@mountainsintomemories I lowered my hitch head as far as it can go and the trailer still sits 3 inches higher in the front than the back… will this hurt anything? I did take it camping for the first time this weekend with the new truck and it towed like a dream… no sway at all… should I be concerned?
@mountainsintomemories3 жыл бұрын
As I understand it, your setup would be adding more weight to the rear axle of your trailer. Depending on how close you are to your trailers GVWR, you could be overloading that axle. At best you would just be causing uneven wear on the trailer tires, but you could rotate them to compensate for that. Also, gas mileage may be slightly better with the trailer level or nose down.
