Tips for becoming a Developer Advocate

I am so glad I found your channel! I have recently started my career in IT and my company uses many Google applications. I was searching into how to better automate some of our processes, and thats when I discovered Google Apps Script via your channel! I am a true beginner, but I've been looking through your vids and gaining great knowledge about this little-known, awesome tool!

First of all congrats on starting your career in IT!!!! 😀 Since I've joined Google I've shifted from publishing Apps Script videos to JavaScript on this channel. But since Apps Script is a cloud-based JavaScript platform you should still be able to benefit from the videos.

But what's a Developer Advocate? (Do you advise Google about their products? Do you develop products for them? Is it a full-time job?)

As a Developer Advocate for Google Workspace I advices developers on how to use the Google Workspace platform (APIs, Apps Script, etc.). So I don't develop, I show how to use the products. And yes, this is my main job.

Really nice video! Thanks for sharing... You talked about learn the tecnology that you want to work with, but what about skills to be a Developer Advocate? Could you share more about this? Like, books, blogs, people to follow, etc..

It depends on what you will focus when you become a Developer Advocate. I'm focused on making video tutorials. So my main skill is creating videos. If you want to focus on presenting at tech conferences then you should learn how to be a good public speaker. And the list goes on...
