Nice video. Good tips especially about the blades being sharp. For the ruler, counldn't you get a plastic one with a metal blade?

Hi Joanne, thank you for the great tips. I'm definitely going to use pins from now on, as well as glue, to hold my pieces of foam board together at a right angle. I'm currently making my first miniature project. I bought a Book Nook in kit form that's made up of 5 plywood pieces that I just have to glue together, and decorate myself. it's going to be a Victorian style miniature library. I also bought a window frame that I've put in and I've made a set of full length curtains for the window. Now, I want to make a pelmet to sit over the top of them. Could you give me some advice on making a pelmet out of foam board? I'd like to cover the pelmet with a layer of quilt batting and then fabric, and I've also made a couple of tiny tasselled tie backs for the curtains. I would be very grateful for any advice you can give me about this. Thanks again. Love from Amanda in Australia ❤️ xox

I usually make the base out foamcore just the same way I would in full size. Normally I use something like flannel to act as batting to keep in scale.

Hi. I'm building a large dollhouse--a large miniature :)--with foamboard, and I chose to use the black because it's matte. For a while, I couldn't decide between that and basswood, but then I saw that the basswood pieces at the store were already warped. I heard that there is an issue with foamcore warping when you paint it or apply moisture, as in glue or paper mache. Another video said to paint both sides of the foamcore, and it flattens back out. I know this isn't always practical to do, and I was wondering if you knew how to prevent warping when working with large pieces of foamcore that will be glued or painted. Thank you!

I have had issues with the paper peeling when I paint it. Any tips on painting or wall papering foam board?
@richrobb54254 жыл бұрын
Tips for Painting Foam Board Spray Paint: If you have a choice, use spray paint over brush-applied paint. Spray paint does not leave streaks when applied, and you have just as many color options with spray paint as you do with other paints. Acrylics: Use acrylics when painting on foam board, rather than oil-based paint. Acrylics dry faster and are easier to clean up.

What’s the depth? This was so helpful to a total noob.

Not many realize that the blade should be at a low incline and also needs to be very sharp. Prefer the other foam because it it less brittle.

Can you glue dowels to these? I wanted to make a doll house bed a miniature one… Think that would be the best thing for it but wasn’t sure if that would work with this

I purchased some foamcore from the Dollar Store and made some wainscoting (spelling?) for my dollhouse. Unfortunately, when I paiinted it with acrylic paints, it totally warped. What did I do wrong? Help, please.

This happened to me too! Everyone talks about how awesome foamcore is but every time I’ve used it it’s warped horribly. What are we doing wrong?
@mmaurece77625 жыл бұрын
@@TheNeonCow Glad to know that it's not just me. BTW: I did manage to find a vid on KZbin that spoke of the issue. The guy said to peel the paper off of both sides and it will un-warp. Magically, it did. The issue that I now have is that when I paint the bare foam, my paint turns out very, very splotchy. Not sure if priming first (or now) would make a difference. I really don't want to have to re-do this wall project that I'm working on. Hopefully Joanne will have some words of advice. Thanks for responding! Have a great day!

You may need to use a different paint or water it down or use very thin layer, I would try to see if you can texture to the surface by adding another layer of paper before you paint...

foam core? thats foam board o 3o

that seems to be a regional thing, here it is always labeled as foam core or foam core board.

@@joannesminis will you please answer??? A big problem I see on the comments here is people paint it with acrylic paint and it warps. Really need an answer pretty please... How should this be fixed?
@tashamanley20372 жыл бұрын
I'm a year late answering but if you peel the paper off both sides its a lot easier to paint etc. Also add some cornstarch to your paints for a better coverage. Or even the texture powder works too.
