I'm one of the victims of inverted filter. It ruined my self esteem for a while. It is when I decided to follow my hairdressers advice and try side part. She'd been suggesting it for years but I was always against it and she never pushed me and she was right. It become less noticable even for me. Watching this video and seeing Kat who I think is one of the most beautiful people in the world having a same jaw moving to a side as me and I never noticed just helped heal my confidence so much

I have a nose that leans to one side and that really bothers me a lot and my smile seems crooked too, the most annoying this however is my one eye looking larger than the other. Yes, looking at other faces having similar issues really helped boost my confidence. Like, yeah it is commonly found in human faces and with more and more people posting on the internet you can really see that the irregularities are common.

I always love asymmetry in others' faces but negatively fixate on my own. My eyes are large and very asymmetrical; one sits lower on my face and is less rounded. Ugh!! Catch me squinting in every photo to try and hide the unevenness lol. Thanks for the tips! I'm going to do a side part from now on and try some softer makeup. I also want to experiment with hats, perhaps something like a tilted beret could help offset asymmetry?!

I think makeup can help with making your face more symmetrical, for example if you have your lips a bit tilted to one side you can put some makeup on the opposite side to make it look more even, another example is contouring your face in a way to compensate the differences between the sides. one of my eyebrows is higher than the other, so what I do is elevate the eyebrow that is lower and I try to lower the higher one, by simply brushing it. also, to look more symmetrical on photos you just have to find the right angle of your face to take pictures.

My face is asymmetrical because in elementary school my nose was hit twice-once by a basketball and once by a kid who hit me in the face with his satchel full of books. For this reason, I don’t part my hair in the middle. Also, my smile is a tiny bit asymmetrical, and so are my eyebrows and eyes. My nose is also a bit prominent; not as much as some, but it’s wider at the bottom and when I smile it’s more noticeable. Thankfully it’s not long when viewed from the side and it doesn’t tip downwards. I don’t think I’m beautiful, but I think I’m attractive. My features aren’t masculine. Dressing in a feminine way, living a healthy lifestyle, and developing skills like playing the piano and singing helps me carry myself with confidence and accept my flaws.

Interesting to hear that most people think their face is asymmetrical, or that people even *expect* human faces to be 100% symmetrical, as like you say, no one's is! It makes me wonder why that is, ie. why do pepole expect that..? I've come to terms with my facial asymmetry long ago, though it is very true that I don't like photos taken of me, and seeing myself in photos, most of the time. :) I do love red lips though, I don't really look alive without one :)

I started using a foreo bear mini 2 and although I didn't get it for that purpose, I have noticed that my pictures look so much more symmetrical now! I have a crooked nose from a childhood accident (which is also a little too large, siiiigh, so I'm super self conscious about it) I was pleasantly and happily surprised at the improved symmetry in the rest of my face! Short of surgery, can't do anything about the nose, but I like my face so much more lately. I imagine the micro current does something similar to your acupuncture. 😊

I am feeling confused about how the camera portrays people accurately. When I observe my friend in a mirror and in real life, she looks identical. Does this imply that the mirror is more precise than the camera? As various camera settings can alter a person's appearance, but the mirror always reflects the same image. Also but why is it that the mirror acts like a camera when you put both of them at a 90 degree angle to each other?
@stylerefinement
@stylerefinement Жыл бұрын
I think that how far of a distance the photo is taken from has a part in that!! The closer you are, the more the center of the face is more highlighted, so what you described of your friend appearing more precise in a mirror than a photo makes sense to me since when you’re looking at your friend in a mirror the distance is likely similar to if you were to face him/her and observe their face!

hey jenn!! recently while doing my makeup i've noticed that i kinda look better with just eyeliner and no mascara, any reasons why that might happen? is it because of the deep set eyes and low brows and dark lashes just make it seem "crowded"?(which i have) it looks so undone without makeup on lashes but without it looks si much more fresh and youthful? or is it that eyes become the focal point when i add mascara with overall very delicate makeup in the face? any tips how to maintain your cheeks or skin the focal point despite eyes drawing attention? god im sorry this comment became so long hahah
@stylerefinement
@stylerefinement Жыл бұрын
Hi! Do you have narrow crease lines?? I find that people with narrow crease lines tend to look better without mascara because the darkness of the mascara is another factor that “crowds” the eyelid area! And if you already have dark lashes the darkness gets enhanced more with the mascara. You usually curl your lashes when wearing a mascara as well, which also closes off your crease line area more. If you want to keep your skin the focal point of your makeup but you already have dark & prominent eyes, minimal eye makeup is my recommendation! Hope that helps ❤️

which side do you recommend parting the hair on if there is asymmetry? in other words which side of the face do you recommend exposing more?
@stylerefinement
@stylerefinement Жыл бұрын
Hi! That would depend on your personal preference (since everyone has their favorite side) as well as your proportions. For example, for clients with long faces, if your outer fifths (the distance from the outer corner of your eye to the edge of the ear) is wider on one side, it would make sense to expose the wider side since it's more effective at adding width to the face overall. Hope that helps!

Can you cover nose asymmetry? You showed no examples of beautiful significantly asymmetrical nose or how to help balance that flaw.....makes me think that is the one thing that has no hope? Not like hair can cover the nose like it does the side of the face... Is this just a "learn to live with it" flaw?
@stylerefinement
@stylerefinement Жыл бұрын
Hi! The side part rule also applies to nose asymmetry because a middle part draws our gaze down the center of the face and highlights the nose area more! As with the bold lip rule as well, because a bold lip color draws attention to the lip area, if the asymmetry in your nose is prominent enough in your nose tip area as well, then the lip color would highlight it ☺️ hope that helps!

Only 2% of people have a symmetric face

So I have very asymmetrical brows and eyes. And I have very small face. I used to do side part all the time because of my asymmetry. One day I did middle part and everyone loved middle part more. You said on your video "If you have short face you should do middle part." And now you say "If you have asymmetrical face you should do side part." Im so confused 😂

The two issues are totally separate and you should decide on your priority! A middle part lengthens the face but highlights asymmetry more - the fact that your friends think you look better with a middle part probably means your asymmetry isn’t severe and lengthening the face should be your priority ☺️

Asymmetry is what makes us interesting. I am sorry but this world is going mad. Do you all want to look like perfect clones? Stop using this stupid Instagram!!! Read a book! Look is really not that important!!!!!

Agreed. Go do something more interesting and productive will make us all feel much better than staring at a mirror and trying to make the face symmetrical.

I had a personal good laugh using photoshop to see what I would look like with making a all left side symmetrical face and a separate all right side symmetrical face and I looked like a completely different person on both experiments- and looked like a Distant relative to myself😂. I asked my husband which side he liked best and he said I am lovely as is- he mentioned he felt unsettled with the visual experiment results because they did not look like me😂 . I have a notably asymmetrical face and use subtle makeup tricks and have always had a side part to feature my more attractive side. If we were all perfectly symmetrical we would give off the Uncanny Valley vibe- Think about those early Pixars ads ( early coca cola polar bear ads) where the symmetrically drawn animals looked really creepy (*uncanny valley) Since those ads if you notice the Pixars have asymmetry to give a human feel to the characters they create. Love your imperfections, they make you a lovely, warm, unique human.

Asymmery adds character to the face, tho. You want to be symmetrical or characterful? Just saying

Yes exactly, as I have mentioned in the video (have you watched it fully 👀? lol). Whether you choose to offset the asymmetry OR highlight it more to add character to your face is completely your choice!

Clearly the people who click on the video want a symmetrical face. You can wait for her to make a "how to make your face more asymmetrical with character" in the future lol

@@hanhdoan9101 Jenn did say something similar in the video, that you can highlight asymmetry to make your face look more interesting. Also it's precisely because everyone here probably feels inadecuate about their asymmetrical faces that reading this point of view is important.

“Her lips add a lot of character to her face,” is literally a line she says in this video. I love when people try to virtue signal in the comments but just end up exposing themselves for not watching the video at all 😆
