Hi, I was wondering if you were ever asked to provide your passport information when signing a contract for private student accommodations? As it’s sensitive information, I was wondering why a landlord would need it when signing your contract for a private student accommodation.

Hello, yes if I can recall correctly, they requested a copy of my ID, proof of address and emergency contact information etc. As an international student, I didn't have any UK ID, so I either sent my passport or my drivers licence, I can't remember which one. I am not 100% sure but I think they ask for these documents/information so they can draw up the lease agreement with the tenants full legal name. Remember this all ties in when an international student needs to open a bank account in UK as you will have to provide information such as proof of address and all (I made a video about opening a UK bank account as well). It's good for your name to match all your documents. Hope my comment helps you.
