I did a search for ufo quilting and found this. What a blast from the past!! I have to say these quilt videos are what sparked my love for quilting. I want to go back and watch them all again. Mary I love you! I love your charm and humor. And I loveLOVE all your tips and tricks for newbies like I was!

You could also frame some blocks for your sewing room!

They take up psychological space too~ For blocks that I don't like, or did not quite rise to the finished outcome I expected, I incorporate them in a "scrap bag"...literally put them into shopping bags that are comprised of unloved blocks and "fabric" made from scraps. I buy polypropylene webbing and make sturdy bags that have lots of utility and visual interest.

I liked the block she was saying only a mother could love, lol. I'd maybe just put some sashing between blocks so the quilt wasn't busy. My UFOs happen because I get bored of looking at the material or I get something new I want to start with, and I never come back to it, oops.

I like that "Don't start any other project until you deal with these!" I have UFO, quilting, knitting and crochet projects! I'm in trouble.

You could frame up a pretty orphan block as wall decor. Enjoy your program. Cheers from Wollongong, Australia.

I have finished a couple of UFO's recently. I am getting ready to finish another one today. Thanks for your tutorials and tips.

Wowza! I had never seen this episode before, and the quilt over Mary's right shoulder is nearly identical to one I made...including some of the fabrics. My cornerstones are different, but same design. I swear I never saw this, but I must have seen the quilt somewhere.

Mary, I love that you said "Don't start a new project until you deal with this!" I have three UFO's sitting in my sewing room. But I just went on a pre-cut buying spree and of course I want to start playing with all my new fabric! But, I will painfully try to finish my UFO's BEFORE playing with the new stuff. Thanks!

Yes! Frame that wonderful PP block! It would also remind you of the beautiful project you want to do in the future. Hot pads are always a great thing to make with orphan blocks that aren't too large. I know I go through them pretty fast in my kitchen. Nothing like boiling over black raspberry jelly to stain a hot pad for life. 8-) Thanks for the great ideas.

My problem is I like piecing much more than actually quilting. I practice free motion quilting, but I am so bad at it, I hate risking a nice quilt getting ruined. So if I can't figure out how a quilt can be stitched in the ditch, it becomes the latest UFO. Am I alone in this??
@TinekeWilliams9 жыл бұрын
No, your not alone, me too but at least she makes me laugh xxxx

That's why people hire longarmers. 😊

+Terri Zielke This is exactly me. I thought I was the only one who did this and I don't like the quilting part. Stitch in the ditch I can manage but not the free motion.
@IdratherbeinHobbiton5 жыл бұрын
Definitely not alone! I'm the same way

Lisa Yarost just had a quilt quilted by a longarmer for the first time. Definitely won’t be my last! I love the cutting and piecing much more than the quilting so it just makes sense to me.

Puppy quilts for the local shelter and rescue. I check tension, practice designs and try out new designs. Then use QAYG, put about a half dozen together and you have a puppy size quilt that will be wanted and used. Puppies don't have thumbs and can't quilt, so they won't criticize your work. Thanks for a fun episode!

Great video. I have a multitude of UFOs in various stages of completion. I am an ADD quilter. I flit from one project to the next and back again.

I know now why I subscribe to this, its a laugh a minute! Mary, keep it up, your the best! I have 4 quilts I don't know how to finish as I am a stink free motion quilter so will try and get some stencils and go for it! Mind you, sun is shining so nicely in Auckland New Zealand it is hard to stay indoors! Tina xxxx

I like to make placemats with my "UFO"s. They are often a nice size with a simple border, I can experiment with freemotion. And, at the end of the day, they are still serving a purpose, but no one cares if they get food spilled all over them.
