Black pudding is amazing, especially Bury Black Pudding. You say to go to Chinatown for Chinese, so why not Brick Lane for a curry? And don't go to London for fish and chips. Do it properly and take a day trip to Brighton/Southend/Bognor and eat it out of a cone of paper with a wooden fork in the pissing rain down on the sea front.

Black pudding is fresh pig's blood, salt, steel-cut (pinhead) oatmeal, finely diced pork fat (or beef suet), finely chopped, large yellow onion, finely chopped, milk, freshly ground black pepper, ground allspice. and it's lovely fried in a frying pan with an English breakfast.

@Vixterlk5 жыл бұрын
Not a Londoner, but essentially Black Pudding is a mix of oatmeal, finely chopped pig's fat and pigs blood. It can also contain other ingredients to build the flavour such as onion, herbs like thyme, mint, marjoram, pennyroyal, etc. But it depends on the recipe. The mixture is then encased and boiled. Although it is often fried before it is eaten to give it a crispy outside edge while the inside remains soft. Blood sausages are believed to be some of the oldest forms of sausage among many cultures and most European countries have their own version of a blood sausage. It harks back to when people would use as much of the animal as possible, nothing was wasted. Including blood and fat. But because blood didn't keep unless it's prepared, it was made into a pudding so that it could be preserved more easily. Nowadays, it's typically eaten with a fry up, or added to other classic dishes to switch it up and boost the meaty flavour. I also once had a black pudding Scotch egg and it was top notch. Personally I love Black Pudding. It has a unique rich taste with a deep depth of flavour and just a hint of sweetness to it. It's one of those things that people either really like or really don't like. So I'd say try to get past what it's made of and do in fact try it, because you might really like it and if you don't then you know for sure that you don't.

Hi Sunny, me again, but I'm at a loose end this afternoon. Jellied Eels are just pieces of eel boiled with a bit of seasoning. They're allowed to cool in the water and the jelly is formed by the oils that come out of the eels. If you're going to have pie n mash, find a proper jellied eels/pie n mash shop, now very rare. And don't forget to have the 'liquor', too. An allegedly secret recipe parsley sauce. So ask for pie, mash n liquor. Also, I'm sorry, but the pies served in traditional pie n mash shops are and look nothing like the ones shown in your video. What true pie n mash shop sells a Melton Mowbray Pork Pie???
@Sunny_in_London8 жыл бұрын
I had liquor for the first time at The Admiralty pub when I did the Hidden Pubs video. Even though it's just parsely sauce, I couldn't get the concept of eels out of my head and couldn't have more than two bites!

The opinions in this video are quite simple and outdated. Jellied eels aren't consumed by even many British people. Probably only still around due to tourists thinking we eat them and want to try it. Also black pudding I wouldn't say is very popular. I'm British and I don't eat it. Not many people I know do. Supermarkets sell it but maybe one brand. It's also a bit odd to say stay away from McDonald's. It's just the same as any other McDonald's. If you are saying stay away purely because it's junk food then fair enough. The amount of food that's out there that's really good you didn't even showcase or show any of it.

Black pudding is effing delicious. It's not like it's a weird thing that only British do, in France they have boudin noir, Spain morcilla, Germany Blutwurst etc. Grow up and stop being so squeamish.
