Thankyou Costa for all the help you have given me. When I grow up I want to be a farmer like you! I want live on a paddock and grow organic fruit, vedge and herbs then I would then sell them at a farmer's market. I love reading your book Costas world. I would do anything to meet you someday! Thankyou again Costa and the gardening Australia Gardners!

Depending on "determinate, or indeterminate " potato's.. is the depth you plant. Research the one you want. It makes a huge difference

If you live in an area with no frost or you can protect the plants from frost then you can grow potatoes in containers all year round. You can use alternate layers of grass clippings and regular soil from a garden bed (or another pot) if you don't want to go to the effort of sourcing potting mix, compost and blood & bone. Start with a thick layer of grass clippings at the bottom to help retain moisture while encouraging worms to enter via the holes. then throw in as many weeds as you can find right at the bottom to add nutrients to the soil while also preventing any weed seeds from germinating. Then start layering until you get to the desired height. Also adding a deep pipe made from a plastic PET a bottle with 50mm holes at the bottom will drastically reduce the need for watering once the plants are established. (the bottom of the bottle should be at the center height of the pot).

Your tips are awesome! I want to plant sweet potato in large pots with potting mix. I don’t have a lawn however for clippings. Should l mix coco peat into the potting mix to somehow improve the potting mix from compacting down before planting?

Interesting to plant sweet potatoes in a feasible pot. That could managed the vine more easily if the natural weather is balance with rainy days n sun shine ...let god takecare of the plants 😁

I have just as good results with sprouting store bought potatoes as seed ones. Also more cost effective.

question, why doesn't any of my nursers stock seed potatoes until the end of summer or winter in western Australia as i plant end of summer for springtime harvest for us in the west? just curious as to legend costa plants now is he in northern QLD??? cheers love the channel by the way

that's just when the potatoes tend to form eyes and begin to sprout. If you source seed potatoes once then you will have an endless supply of potatoes from which to grow more plants.

What time of year can you plant potato? I get such conflicting info - bunnings won’t sell seed potatoes rn because they don’t believe you can plant them in spring to summer.

Kipfler potatoes are determinate and produce tubers in only one layer so you shouldn't mound them like the Dutch creams which are indeterminate.....

it does not make sense what you did with the sweet potatoes...they sprawl across the ground setting roots and tubers and you put all 3 in a pot for them to go nowhere???
