As a welder by trade, I've made patterns for the repetitive cutting similar to what you're doing. The drag cup on my plazma torch cuts 3/16 from the edges of the pattern but it's really quick and clean.

Now this is art! I'm sorry but peoplel using cnc for their "art" is bull. It is in the hand work and doing the design and applications by hand that makes it worthy. Thanks for this, O&A is very underrated, and you're a master!
@darkwinter60283 жыл бұрын
Depends. I wrote the CAD/CAM software I use myself, designed two of the controller PCBs, built the UI module of the controller (motion engine comes from GRBL), built several of my machines from scratch and converted the rest from manual machines, and designed the artwork that goes into the CAD/CAM software. I am sufficiently involved in the process that I feel entitled to call what I produce art. However, if it’s somebody who bought a pre-built machine, and a CD full of clip-art, and just stuck a sheet of steel on the table and hit the go button... then, no, that’s no different than printing out a web page that you just found online somewhere. While the original design may qualify as art produced by an artist; what you now have in your hand is *not* your artwork.

Is this oxy/acetylene. I don't know anything about these torches to start with. Would a plasma cutter have the same effect or not be as accurate. I know that at least where I live, acetylene is hard to get hold of these days because of its safety issue compared to other gasses. Think it's been replaces with mapping gas and butane which don't burn as hot. I assume its the same issue in other countries than the uk?
@Allensweldingwoodworking8 ай бұрын
Yea, it’s oxy /acetylene , plasma would be easier on that type of stuff, I didn’t have a plasma when I did that video though.

@@Allensweldingwoodworking Thanks a lot for replying, I think I'll look into a compressor and a plasma cutter then as I don't deal with thick steel really. I wasn't sure if a plasma cutter would be more difficult to use for these small detailed parts. This would be a good skill to learn. A big step up from a hacksaw and file! I'm sure I'll get a result like this someday. I'm just planning on making a weather vane now but it's going to be a lot of filing if I can make it.
