Da iawn ti Carl, dal ati! Dwi'n edrych ymlaen i weld dy daith di trwy ein iaith ni :) Just as a heads-up, lots of people have had good results with Say Something in Welsh. I've a mate from Spain who speaks Welsh near fluently after using SSIW for a year or two. Also, don't worry too much about the north/south divide. There are only about (allegedly) 100 words which are different between north and south (though some of them happen to be the most common words). Anyway, well done, good start, and keep at it!

S'mae! Dw i'n dysgu siarad Cymraeg hyfed. Dych chi'n dod o North Carolina? Dw i'n byw yn Virginia. One quick note: Duo Lingo actually teaches BOTH North and South dialects of Welsh. It can be a pain though, because unless you look in the Notes on the PC app (not available in the phone version) you won't necessarily find out which is which. For example, the two units on possession: Gyda is South Wales, Gan is North Wales.

Mae'n gwych i weld rhywun yn dysgu Cymraeg yn enwedig yn dod o tu fas o'r wlad! Roedd eich Cymraeg yn bendigedig am ddechreuwr! Da iawn! Now I hate to be that guy, but since you asked, I'll point out a few things for improvement - in a good-natured encouraging way (I hope that gets conveyed in text form). 'Dw i hoffi cwrw'/'Dw i gweithio mewn swyddfa' is almost right but you want to add an 'yn' in there which you'll shorten to Dwi'n (dw + i + yn contracted for vowel clash). You got it right in 'Dwi'n tria dysgu Cymraeg'. Also, 'cwrw' has both vowel sounds being pronounced the same as the last one 'w' not 'y'. You work on a day not in it, so it's 'ar bore Dydd Mawrth' not 'yn bore Dydd Mawrth'. I think you might've missed the 'a' between 'bara' and 'caws', but maybe it got a bit smushed together with the 'a' at the end of 'bara' ( just 'bara caws' means cheese bread which sounds delicious but doesn't mean bread and cheese) And lastly, may I compliment your fantastic accent for someone who's never been to Wales? Mae'n ardderchog! Dal ati a pob lwc gyda dysgu'r Cymraeg! (Gwnes i tyfu lan yng Nghymru yn siarad Cymraeg ond mae fy sgiliau iaith wedi mynd bach yn rydlyd yn ddiweddar. Os mae unrhywun yn gweld cymgymeriad mewn beth dwi'n ysgrifennu fan hyn, byddai'n diolchgar am y gywiriadau.)

Diolch yn fawr iawn! I really appreciate the feedback. I often don't know why or when to use "dw i" vs. "dw i'n." I did try to add an "a" between bara and caws, but I didn't enunciate enough. Bummed that I said "cwrw" wrong--I'm simply mimicking the Duolingo pronunciation. I'll try to remember "ar bore Dydd," too! :D I may not be Welsh, but I have Welsh ancestry and enjoy the language so much (as well as my other heritage tongue, Gàidhlig). Thanks again!
@bicycle4206
@bicycle4206 2 жыл бұрын
@@CarlsLingoKingdom A good way to think about it is that 'dw i' should never start a sentence on its own, but it can end one. You need a word after it to make it make sense e.g. 'dwi'n' (dw + i + yn) = I do/I am or the negative 'dw i ddim yn' = I do not/I am not, '(Ry)dw i wedi' = I have done (although you can also use the past tense of a verb with the conjugation for yourself in some instances for this too e.g Rydw i wedi rhedeg marathon vs Rhedais marathon = I have run a marathon vs I ran a marathon). But you can use it to end a sentence meaning 'I am ...' e.g. Dysgwr Cymraeg dw i, Person hyderus dw i. Although using it this way instead of 'dwi'n ...' sounds a bit formal to my ear, that might just be because of the tafodiaith(slang/dialect) I'm used to using. Also starting a sentence with just 'dw' instead of the full 'rydw' sounds more relaxed like you're around friends or family so if you're writing in a more formal context I would suggest writing things out in their full forms. Now, that's a lot take in, but don't worry about it too much if you make a mistake - the way you said it in the video will be understood fine if you're talking to someone. Duolingo's Welsh pronunciation is pretty good from what I've heard of it but I don't begrudge them for getting things wrong sometimes. But yeah, 'w' will never make an 'y' uhhh sound, it's always oo like goose but slightly tighter lips. Dal ati! :D
