Get a proper bike bag, hard to keep it under the weight limit depending on the ride, but oh so easy, 5 mins and you are riding! Pool noodles are a cheap light hack to add in to protect forks etc as well.

I have looked at bike bags many times. They seem to weight about 8.5 kg. That will make me overweight.

@@bestdayevermtb2 I keep the pedals accessible for sacrificial removal......it doesn't get me under weight removing them, but so far (fingers crossed), it gets me close enough the check in staff sneak it through!

And, believe it or not, it survived the trip to Queenstown and back despite having all the other luggage (including my bike) in the shuttle bus piled on top of it.

That is why I pack it well. Box on its side with suit cases stacked on top of it. No damage done.

In Whistler and Queenstown I just kept the box in my accommodation. I must admit in Europe I had to keep the box in a van we hired.

I just bought a flight that gives you two bags. Also good in covid times as can get refund if I don't fly. Saying that in QUEENSTOWN now riding bike no issues.
