Great video with lots of info. In 2014 I was at the Waterloo Airshow. I was using a Canon 3Ti with a Sigma 18-250 lens. With that combo I got my best airshow photos ever. I’m now using a Canon 90D with a Sigma 100-400 lens. I am looking forward to shooting the Canadian International Airshow in Toronto with this combo at the end of August.

I don't agree, that you can use only full frame mirrorless cameras for aviation photography. Crop sensors are pretty good now a days.

I'm going to my first airshow next week and it'll be the first time I get to use the sigma 150-600 for action shots like these. Your examples for the different shutter speeds for prop aircraft was really helpful in understanding what to expect from each speed. Great job

My backyard opens to (formerly) Mather AFB here in CA. We have front row seats to the Capital Airshow this weekend. I have shot the previous years of airshows here with my trusty D3400 which served me will for many years, but finally upgraded to the D850 this year and so excited to shoot the airshow this year! I also rented a Tamron 150-600 so really excited to see what I can capture! I typically only shoot full manual (mostly just shoot my kids, pets and a few family shoots/events), so really appreciate your tip on switching to auto ISO for this purpose. I will def give that a try. Thankfully due to my proximity I will have several days to shoot the airshow practice and actual show days, so between the 4 full days of planes I'm sure I'll get something. Great video, thanks!!

I just shot the cne airshow using canon 5d mark ii sigma 150-600mm contemporary. Had a hard time with the auto focus . Had it set to manual . Iso low . Shutter 1/320 to 1/500 and ai servo . And ai focus . Tried both . Was a hazy day so .

I shoot with the Canon T6..and the 300mm lens.. I still get some nice shots. Thanks for the video, well done. I also have a D750 Nikon,, beautiful camera, but who can afford the lens.

You can and it can be useful to get slower shutter speeds.

Hi would you recommend cropped sensor or full Frame? I have both canon ver bodies, I'm using the 100-400mm IS2 and ill be in the photo pit. I'm also bringing the 70-200mm 2.8 and wider lenses if too close for when they taxi by. Thanks for the informative video.

What do you do for prop aircraft when you have a very sunny day and at 1/250 at 100 iso is over exposing? Do you have to use a filter at that point?

I deal with the problem by using a variable neutral density filter. In this way I can use manual aperture and shutter speed, auto ISO.

You can, but it will be very difficult. Using a DSLR/DSLM allows you to review your images to adjust the exposure. I’d suggest buying a beginner DSLR/DSLM. Another disadvantage would be not being able to edit your images.

I use the middle of the range, f8 or so, but I also use a variable neutral density filter to enable me to fix shutter speed, appetite and ISO.

The only tip is that if you want to be a professional super star, then you must do air to air. Shooting from the spotter locations or any shot taken on the ground is amateur and very common and you cannot go calling yourself pro unless you do all your shots in the air.
