When you don't shoot Sony everyday you'll have this experience. Sony builds their cameras for multiple applications so they put features that many applications won't need. One big problem with the Fx6 you'll experience, Once you remove the XLR handle you won't have any audio into the camera. For many people that is a show stopper. Enjoyed hearing your experience, can't wait to see the next adventure.
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
Yea I don’t like Sony menu and never will! Lol. For cinema you don’t need that many settings.

I use a Sony FS5m2 which has a similar body to the FX6, but actually has the one XLR on the body and one of the handle. Tbh.. the only time I've ever needed audio into the body (only) was maybe once. Seriously. I've used this cameras for 4 years now. Going gimbal is the only use case I can see and there is a scratch audio mic on the body so you can still sync via audio in post. Yes.. it would be good to have at least a 1/8 audio jack into the body, but it's not a game changer.

@EJNakamura Жыл бұрын
@Britt - just in line with what the first commenter said; how do you feel in such circumstances where they highlight your race or gender rather than highlighting the quality of content and work of the creator? Cause while the original commenter probably meant well, to me the presumption is “black people” do not make content or if they so wish to do so, they are hindered by a lack of opportunity? I’m interested to hear your take on that.
@kamdoesmusic Жыл бұрын
@@EJNakamuraMy comment is simply expressing gratitude to see someone who looks like me making content in film :). Two things can be true at once. She also made a great video, which I said as well. Her making a great video is not connected to her race nor her gender, it’s simply the product of her putting in work to something she loves! I know you said my comment *probably* meant well but I still felt the need to reply. Because probably implies there was a chance I meant something completely different than what my comment said. As a black creator myself, and from my experience with other black people in any field it does suck when people highlight race for the wrong reasons. Representation however is not the wrong reason to highlight race. An example that is frustrating however is platforms highlighting black creators in a black category, instead of just including black creators when they highlight other creators! This sucks because these platforms are usually just trying to act like they care about diversity. While never addressing real issues that actually affect minority creators on platform. However we are not a monolith and not every black person feels the same. There is no presumption for me that black people don’t create content in film, but we are a minority in the population, therefore there is going to be less film content from black creators. Representation is not simply about being excited to see someone that looks like you doing something you want to do. There are very practical reasons as well which would be a lot to dive into. But one big example for me in the film category is lighting. When looking at lighting tutorials I love seeing black actors in them. This is because it gives me a more accurate sense of how lighting is going to look on me, or some of my friends! Hopefully this gives some insight into this topic from my perspective.

@@EJNakamura I understand exactly what he meant. I don't think he meant black people don't make content but on youtube you don't see many black creators especially black women on here making filmmaking content so it's refreshing to see. It's why I started my channel. As a black women I didn't see black women creating this type of content and unfortunately that's how hollywood is. So I don't mind it at all. I just make sure my work backs it up. I think if the quality of my content wasn't' there I wouldn't be where I am on youtube. Most companies never sponsor black women, most companies don't even have black women in their promotional videos. How often have you seen black women content creators that focus on filmmaking on KZbin? And what's that ratio with other counterparts?

I used to use a monopod for everything, like docs, corporate and TVC's. A camera with good IBIS like the Panasonic S1 or S5 makes the monopod largely unnecessary, but there are times like you mention when a monopod is very handy.
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
I disagree. When you’re on a set like a professional film set it’s also amateur to not have something like a monopod or tripod! I don’t edit the footage so I can’t expect for someone to stabilize it for me. All they will see when they get the footage is shaky (even tho I’m a stable person) we have to stop thinking one man band and remember we want to get to a place where we’re handing off the footage. So with that it needs to be close to perfect right off the bat! The monopod is great not just for sturdiness when conducting stand ups but also does help overall with hard to get shots.
@Rashadmcka Жыл бұрын
I use the s1H for weddings and often abandon my monopod, the Panasonic stabilization modes are just so much better than the Sony cameras we also work with, but during ceremony and getting ready, the monopod helps my back if I have to keep a single stable shot lol.

Brittney thanks so much, I appreciate the monopod suggestion. I'm also thinking of going cageless with just a handle extension, monitor, shotgun and transmitter for lavs. Some friends use a camera strap for added tension and support. I'm curious if you would consider using a harness style strap (on both shoulders rather than around the neck) for continuous doc style shooting, especially when using a heavier lens like the 70-200?
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
Yea I always go cageless when using the fx3. If I usually use a strap it’s a normal camera strap. But I think a harness strap would make more sense if you can quickly detach it when needed. And it’s better if your going from stabilizer back to sticks and etc.

@DineshBhadwal Жыл бұрын
The real problem with Sony FX3 is Noise Reduction. It messes up a lot of things on higher ISOs and there is no way to turn it off. This is what makes the FX6 a great option since you can turn off NR! Another deal breaker is the RAW output. The ProRes Raw is 12 bit on Ninja V against what Sony advertised i.e. 16 bit. And, after going through all the hassle of recording RAW signal you don't get controls like White Balance, ISO and even Exposure. On the other hand, every camera which records Black Magic Raw externally, will give you all these options. But, that auto focus is stellar. If you are a solo shooter, you cannot go wrong with Sony AF. I think it would stick to even the fastest moving subjects not to mention the Eye detect. As a solo shooter, this frees your mind and lets you focus (no pun intended) on other things like framing, lighting (yes, you need to light properly even if it's a low light miracle) directing your subject, audio and a million other things, which can go wrong if you are alone. The problem is as imagemakers even a frame out of focus would dent your image and Sony takes care of that. Cameras like FX3 help you make money and that's where it's a great tool.
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
Yep that’s the only reason why I recommend the fx3. As a BTS cam op, I’m always a solo shooter so having great low light, a good audio system, and autofocus makes for a really good camera! Otherwise I love my bmpcc.

Love the video!! I’m a Sony FX3 shooter here in Atlanta and wanted to know how to get BTS gigs on these top movie productions or tv shows…how would I go about doing that and getting my first gig? And do they already have a budget for you that they told you per day or do you tell them you rate per day to shoot Bts??

Hey! So I started doing friends BTS on their films and photo shoots to have work to show and then I got hired to do BTS for commercials. From there just putting my work out and the opportunity to do films presented itself and they saw my previous work. When it comes to budget it really depends on the job. The Ann Hathaway project was union based so I got paid union the union rate. The women king was not union since it was in another country so I was able to talk to my mentor and gave a good daily rate mixed with my kit fee.

EPK means electronic press kit, it’s a compilation of material to promote a film or TV project, a new album by a band, or an artist's work. So like interviews from the cast and crew talking about the film. They use that to promote the film. They did a bunch of EPK stuff for the women king

Great info! Do you also edit your own work? Or do you just turn the footage and sound over to a production rep?
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
Normally because this is a union role I would turn in footage. You can’t do multiple roles with union jobs. For non union jobs sometimes they hire me to edit as well which I like!

What’s a good rate, for BTS on Film sets with 6-8 hour days
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
Really depends on who the company is but for what I do I usually get paid union rates and if it’s not a union job i try to stay close to union prices and make sure I add in a kit fee as well. But it depends on the project and what’s needed.

Would you choose the Sony fx3 or the r6 mark ii for documentary/vlog content? For some reason, I enjoy using canon cameras more than Sony. Great Content
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
I had the R6 and it would overheat on me a lot. The sony does overheat as well and it's happened to me but not as much as the R6. However I love my R! It just doesn't have 4k 60fps. The fx3 is great for documentary content! I prefer canon colors so I use my canon a little more for personal documentary work. But when working with clients I use the sony because I think the fx3 holds up better for paid work being a one man band.

@@BrittneyJanae Thanks, The r6 mark ii solved a lot of the overheating issues. Thanks for your feedback

@@MODESTYXO205 Then I would say get the r6 with a nice shotgun mic and lavs for backup. I love my R. Had the r6 and loved it. The colors are amazing. I pair it with my peter mckinnon ND filters.

Where are you based? Those are some really cool gigs you got...Sony menu sucks for real...I feel like I need to take a class before shooting with it again...for now it's canon and Blackmagic for me for now
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
I’m based in Los Angeles. I hate Sonys menu! A lot of things in it don’t really need to be in it!

Are both the crew and cast sound recorded directly into the camera?
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
Yea both are recorded directly into the camera. I did left and right channels with the audio handle.

@@BrittneyJanaehow do you connect it to the mixer?

Hey Britt so dope got to do this BTS proj as well as Woman King. That was clutch they let you go into sound board on set to get best sound quality. By way I follow ya on IG I'm lpitts_cre8 Hate that had those problems with FX3 seemed a bit buggy. As far as battery are you able to run a V-Mount through a V-Mount plate? I know the FX3 is small in body size though. I use ZCAM E2-M4 with 154W battery it lasts me multiple shoots.
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t want to have a v-mount setup because what I like about the fx3 is the small size. Especially for BTS work. Otherwise I can use my bmpcc if I need a bigger setup. So I try to stay away from the v mount stuff.

I may have to get the fx30 until I get my budget up lol!! Loved the look of the video! Was the sit down part filmed with a black pro mist filter?
@BrittneyJanae Жыл бұрын
The sit down part was filmed on a canon EOS R. With a pro mist on it.
