I definitely have those days where I really don’t want to prep a lot of stuff before an art session, especially when I don’t have much motivation to draw that day. When I feel like that, I like to use a ballpoint pen because it is super easy to pick up and start drawing without any sharpening, and allows you to get a variety of different values for shading. I personally use a 4-in-1 pen so that I can still get a variety of colors too!

Sometimes I get caught up on finding the right reference photo, so I find it helpful to save fun images on Pinterest when I’m not drawing, like waiting for class etc. That way when I sit down to draw, I can just go :D

I always thought that I don't like gouache. But I figured that I just don't like squeezing the paint out of the tubes and mixing it. Because I never know how much I'll need. I just tried jelly gouache and I like it way more. By scooping paint out with a brush I have way more control and I love it. It reminds me of watercolors that are much closer to me. And now I have another medium to play with.

It is a very lovely video with some valuable tips. By the way, European badgers, as you are drawing them, are in the same family as martens, but in contrast to those, they are more on the omnivorous side. They are really fun to watch (from the distance) when one gets the rare chance to see them.

Tysm for the tips!I have found the best way for me to concentrate on drawing is by watching someone draw in the background and you have quickly become my go to person so I thank you for making videos and inspiring me to make art!

It's wild how easily tiny barriers can stop you getting started... I also struggle to do watercolour because it seems like too much to get fresh paint water and a paper towel. Maybe I just need to install a mini sink next to my desk 😎

I haven't been at all well, and don't really get around to any of my hobbies. Once every so often I grab my sketchbook and quickly draw a few things from reference. Sometimes just a single pen or pencil may be best, to not overwhelm yourself.

Thank you for the new video! The badgers are sooo cute ☺ Sometimes just the thought of having to choose and prepare materials can make me lose not only time but also focus when drawing, so this is a really helpful video! I personally used to use water tank brushes for years because I always had to draw on the go or within my 30 minutes of free time in the evening, so getting out my tiny palette, that brush and some tissue I'm carrying around really takes no time. I've recently gotten really into square (?) brushes though, and I sadly haven't found one of these with a water tank yet. Also, I just wanted to say that I've been watching your videos while drawing for years, your voice is really pleasant to listen to and I never get bored of the topics you're talking about so I often watch them over and over again! It's also nice to feel like I have company while drawing, so really thank you for all the videos you've made so far, they help me a lot !

Whenever I see badgers I am reminded of a school fieldtrip, where we were told to sample plants and stuff and collect them to learn about everything. And my group of 3 people found a small bunch BADGER FUR stuck on a dry branch. From a european badger, luckily they don't tend to be aggressive but shy most of the time. So we were safe. BUT the expert that was walking through those woody-swampy areas every day was super surprised for some reason - yet confirmed what we found wasn't dog fur or something elso, but indeed from a badger. It was the most logical explanation... I still think about that story sometimes c: And I still have some of the fur in my diary :'D bc teenage me was crazy about that Thanks for making me remember c: When I saw your sketches I kinda wish we'd seen the badger x'D But the trip was in broad daylight, so chances would've been VERY very slim

Watercolor is also one of my favorite art supplies to use. I also used a Talens sketchbook and while it might not be good with multiple layers of watercolor but just a simple base of color, it gets the job done. I was surprised with how well the paper held watercolor because I thought the water might seep through the pages.

i recently tried one of the art creation sketchbooks and was heartbroken to find that it ABSOLUTELY bled through the paper . however the sketchbook i got had a patterned cover design and white paper and im guessing those ones are made differently bc ive never seen anyone else complain that a single wash of watercolour completely bled through their paper :( i was so sad bc watercolour is one of my fav ways to cover lots of area in a sketchbook and idk how i would ever fill a 160 page book that i can't paint in

I'm glad that before finishing my last sketchbook i decided to try two new ones , a strathmore mixed media for paint practice and the art creation as a jack of all trades type thing , so at least i have a really nice sketchbook to fill now bc i can't see me using the royal talens one for anything but bad sketches and thumbnailing since i can't use some of my fav supplies in it D:

I love your art style! I definitely find myself leaning toward the dry/drawing media these days. But it is entirely possible to "mix" a range of colors just by layering, whether colored pencils, crayons, pastels. It's even possible to mix/layer acrylic pens, although I don't generally do that. I have the tin of ten neocolors, and that set is very bright and saturated, but I've been able to do fairly realistic drawings with them. I really like to use a very limited palette.

I'm gonna reccommend for watercolour- if you really love watercolour but don't always wanna deal with all the work, get a small set, like 6 or 8 colours, an a couple of water brush pens, and just a small rag. No setup, keep water in the pens so you can go whenever you want!

haviving to set up and clean up supplies is probably a huge factor for why I started digital art, and why I rarely made traditional art after that. it just takes so annoyingly long to set up, so why would I do it just to take it down an hour later, and then set it up all over again the next day 😭 so I used to just not clean up after a drawing session, but that resulted in me having a messy room 24/7 😐 so I switched to digital art. but I still miss traditional art and am trying to get back into it

@JelArts6 ай бұрын
Royal talens art creation sketchbook (the one in this video) is pretty cheap and good quality with lots of fun colours! You might not know what kind of paper you want exactly but I've found this one if pretty versatile. If you like to do a lot of heavy watercolour then I'd maybe try to find more of a "mix media" sketchbook with thicker paper, like a Stillman and birn beta sketchbook.

Wonderful vid !!! A great way to start my day: cute traditional mix media badger drawings !! 🥲🥰💛💚🧡 Ive been doing quick limited doodles myself just to get art to paper and it's been pretty fun to do in between experimenting 😋!!! And funny you mention skunks and raccoons bc they *are* part of the same superfamily, Musteloidea but badgers are much more closely related to otters, stoats, wolverines, etc. :3c Fun animal facts !
