Great tips! What has helped me is to not turn my head from my focal point, until I feel my neck starting to hurt and all my skin is bunching up, THEN I quickly whip my head around to return facing the focal point! Ta da! No more dizziness!Makes a HUGE difference for me!!

Thank you for guiding us to understand that we need to acclimate to being dizzy and that that is normal. I am on my way to doing beautiful turns.

Wonderful, yes! You are on your way! You'll get use to it and eventually get a little less dizzy, but while you're learning, it's very normal to feel that and work to get accustomed to it! Happy turning :)

Excellent video! I always thought spotting eliminated dizziness and I thought I was doing it wrong because I’d still get dizzy. This is so helpful to know that isn’t the case. Also didn’t know exactly when to start the turn. Thanks so much for this!

I'm so glad this was helpful! Spotting can reduce dizziness and help you stay oriented within your space versus not spotting at all, but doesn't necessarily eliminate it altogether! Happy dancing! :)

Hello! Im a contemporary dancer, and im currently working on spins and spotting as im struggling with it, but I'm really excited to learn them! I dont know if anyone here can answer this, but does spinning and spotting tutorials that are usually ballet themed work for contemporary dancers? Im struggling to find tutorials just for contemporary dancers.

Being dizzy is very normal! Keep working at it, and you'll improve your spotting AND just generally get more comfortable being dizzy. Happy dancing! :)

I probably have a weird question. I started ballet a year ago and asked my teacher, but she was surprised because she never thought about it. So since we need to blink, do we blink while we whip out head around? Apparently I'm the only one who ever asked this.😂

Over the last 150 years, the rapid head movement in pirouettes has been passed on as described here. On the surface this seems to be true, but it is still not helpful! It is better to perform an active (non-reactive) head movement a little earlier - with relaxed neck muscles - and thus generate energy in the direction of rotation and look forward again at an early stage. It's best to watch a slow motion of perfect tours chained or pirouettes!!! Prof. T.
