You’re the first high school teacher on KZbin I’ve found I can really connect with. I got my undergrad in Creative Writing and realized I want to be a Language Arts high school teacher. Now I’m heading to a fast track master’s program and am absolutely terrified I’m making a mistake, digging myself deeper into student loans I can’t pay. But your videos are reaffirming that this is something I can do and would be good at. And as a small note-your shirt in this video reminded me that there are good things coming, even if I can’t see them yet. I’m a lapsed Christian bordering on agnostic but that verse hit hard today. It’s moments like these that really get me through. I know this video is older but I do hope you see this and I’m able to offer encouragement. Your videos are really saving me right now! Thank you!

When I was student teaching, I told my students i love them and that I’m there for them. They made a huge impact in my life.

I didn't even put jeans ..Observation hours I had on sweats leggings and sat in a corner. I was the fly on the wall. Big setback because the experience could have benefit me more. Now my student teaching begins during a pandemic so further let down in experience that I NEED. Since, it is likely to be done remotely I will take this time to keep building self confidence and remold myself to be a better teaching candidate

In the fall I start my student teaching and I’m so scared because I remember when I was in high school my teachers would always talk mess about the student teachers for that term and I’m just scared to interact with them now being that I’m in the student teacher position and feel like they’re gonna do the same to me 😭

Yes being prepared as a student teacher is important and also not being afraid to command the classroom. Yes, all lessons should have a BME. I like student teachers to use the I do, we do, you do method.

I just wanted to say that I found your video to be very helpful. I’ve been searching for any kind of help on KZbin to get insight on what I should be expecting for student teaching. (I start this fall 😩) I appreciate your tips and your honesty. I feel slightly more prepared thanks to you. Gracias 🙏😊

I love your channel. I'm not a teacher but im 13 and i want to be so bad. You are such an inspiration to me. For some reason though I am having trouble telling people I want to be a teacher. I dont know why but every time i try to tell someone i open my mouth and then shut it again. I think i am worried about them thinking I cant do it and crushing my dreams but i dont know. Anyway if you have any tips for me to reach my dreams I would love to here them💕

Hi Abigail and thank you for liking my channel! The best advice I would give is to pursue your passion. I think it is great and rare for someone at your age to already know what they want to be when they get older. I would say, although family and friends approval is important, it is your life and you have to live with the decisions that you make. I too had people trying to discourage me from being a teacher, mostly because of the low salary but I knew it was what I was supposed to do in life. Teaching brings me so much joy...stress lol but also a lot of joy! I would say hold on to your dreams, tuck them in your heart and pursue them if that's what you believe you are supposed to do

I’m currently student teaching in California. Second semester. Since my school does block schedules the classes I observed, I did not get to teach those students and the one im teaching now never had my master teacher so it was easier for them to see me as their teacher

Hi Amanda, I'm almost to the student teaching phase in my degree. All would be well, but I have crippling anxiety, my chest breaks out in hives, I get sick to my stomach and because of this, I'm rethinking my career in teaching secondary students, which scares me because this is what I've pictured myself doing for the longest time. My program had us in local classrooms where we were kind of like student teachers, but also more so shadowing the teacher. I remember crying, trying to find a way where I didn't have to do this because there was so much fear. It was such a relief when I was done. I did have some experiences that were positive with students, and the teacher there was impressed that I could get to those kids who never talked or who were bullied or had extreme anger issues. With both sides laid out, I'm not sure what to do. I also have PTSD, depression, anxiety, and cyclothymia which is on the bipolar spectrum...currently, I'm not doing great and am heavily medicated. I have such a fear with all these dumb illnesses that already hold me back, I won't be able to be the teacher I want to be. What do you suggest I do?

"Dress the part" I agree. The problem is that I don't know how. I have never cared about style and all of my social contacts don't care about it either. So I feel like I will look better put together in a nice pair of jeans and t-shirt than when I'm trying. Cuz me trying will just end up looking cringy... Also I am female but never have used make-up in my entire life. So I don't think I should be using that and most "female fancy outfits" kinda require make up...? Anyone willing to try and explain good teacher style to me? 😅 Edit: especially together with "be yourself". I'm a nerd and jeans+nerdy t-shirt is as fancy as I get....

I love that you’re being authentic. Find a blazer or two to interchange with a pair of cute boots to throw on with jeans and a T-shirt and you look just leveled up that lewk! Everyone is different and you have your own unique style, even if you feel like it’s not really style, lol. Makeup is for people who like it. I rock mascara and chapstick. It’s what I dig. If you feel confident with no makeup on, then you rock that beautiful face! Rock yourself and be amazing!

This described my situation as a student teacher. Thanks for your advice. I shifted my career so now I'm in a MAT program :) Amanda, do you have any advice on the teaching style? I'm an introvert person. Every time I teach, sometimes it feels forced when I have to be energetic for the time for 4th graders. Do you think being quiet teacher is ok? And also, It is overwhelming that elementary school teachers are very busy with small break time. How do I balance my life and career?

I have a question: did you use a binder to take notes when you were student teaching or did you use something else to take notes while student teaching? If so, how did you organize your materials before you arrive at the school on the first day?
