I have never tried to haggle with the price of a hotel room, but I usually book online ahead of time which would make that almost impossible. I think this would be a useful technique when travelling and needing to stop for the night without a previous reservation.

It is very handy when "walking in" to make a reservation. I'd love to know how it goes if you ever do try to haggle.

Same here! I just book mine ahead of time using websites like staypia.com but next time I’m going to give it a try. Not sure if I’ll be brave enough for this though.

Booking via the hotel site is not always the cheapest. Infact I've never gotten any cheaper rates from hotel sites. Others tips are great.
