If anyone is on the fence about purchasing your glass painting class on teachable I can attest that that class is the best for learning to paint realistic looking glass! I used to be so afraid of painting glass before taking your class and since taking it I paint all kinds of glass jars, vases, drinking glasses, bottles etc ALL the time now. I am always asked how I do it and I direct everyone to your class. I have taken most of your classes and this one is my favorite!

Hullo Lindsay, I do enjoy watching your videos and seeing you create so many truly lovely paintings! I have used quite a few masking methods and they all need planning out first! I remember this “preservation of my highlights” being the first “rule” I wanted to break as a youngster! Sure my paintings suffered a bit, yet it was very freeing! I see so many people who just pick up the white (pen, gouache, marker) and place a highlight on top of their watercolor painting. Hey if that floats their boat more power to them! I believe that if you know how to do something, anything you do to subvert or enhance your painting is just another art technique! Oh Boy, I can go on. Sorry I should have started with this is an amazing painting! I have purchased a couple of years of your critic club tutorials and I wholeheartedly recommend them to artists of ALL levels! Thank you for sharing this sweet video with us and never feel badly about promoting your classes they are really amazing, you truly are a wonderful instructor.

Rubber cement pickup hack: I'd had my Qor masking fluid for a few years, and even though I'd basically never used it, it had become as thick as pudding (and it has a glass bottle...) I noticed that the top half of the jar was turning darker than the bottom half. So I found a piece of blister packaging that was about the size of an eraser. I scooped out the thicker top of the jar and used the blister pack as a mold. I put another piece of plastic loosely over the top (to keep bugs and dust out) and stuck it in the garage so I didn't have to smell the fumes as it dries. So I made my own and got down past the thick masking fluid to the new fresh stuff!

This is GORGEOUS! Looking forward to trying it when I purchase the 2024 Archives. I had a W&N masking fluid bottle that went hard, and I tossed, but it was a plastic bottle. I'm not sure if the formula changed from the glass bottle or the different environment here in Texas. Do you think the masking powder will work for this painting, or is it too soft and will not create enough hard edges?
@thefrugalcrafter5 ай бұрын
It's too soft for this. Some people like the masking pen, it looks like it might be more convenient.

Gorgeous painting, Lindsay!!! I love all the colors & you're right - it sings summer. I do have a question about masking fluid, though. I have consistently had it tear/peel my watercolor paper. I applied it to dry paper, did the painting, & then let the paper air dry usually for at least a couple hours before removing the masking. No matter what I do, it basically always tears the paper. I have tried different brands of masking fluid, all with the same result. I don't apply a super-thick layer, but keep it as thin as possible while still being effective, so I don't think that's the problem. Do you think it would be more of a masking fluid "problem," or more paper? I haven't used it on Arches, though I may have tried it on Cheap Joe's Kilimanjaro paper. I have tried Canson XL, which I know is super student-grade cheap paper. I'm afraid to try it on my "precious" paper, because of the problems I've had. I have basically given up. Any thoughts or advice? Thank you for sharing your process on this painting. Take care, & have a wonderful day! :)
@thefrugalcrafter5 ай бұрын
It's the paper. It needs a robust paper with heavy sizing. If tape marrs the paper masking fluid will tear it for sure.
