Been waiting for new videos for a while now, definitely worth it. Thanks for the great summary. What do you think what is a reasonable price for a made to measure suit?
@hespokestyle6 жыл бұрын
Appreciate that, my man. As I'm sure you know, pricing can vary greatly as a result of many factors, including fabric, details, where your garment is made and how well it's made. And "reasonable" is sort of a moving target depending on the person. That said, for an A-level fabric--they get more expensive the further into the alphabet you get--from a decent program, I'd say you're looking in the $600-1,000 range. If budget is a concern and you're not opposed to buying something in an unseasonal fabric with the intent of wearing it the following year, waiting for those end of season sales where a MTM program is trying to unload bolts of fabric is a good time to swoop in for a good deal. Not sure if that completely answers your question, but it's hard to give a really firm answer in this situation.

I watched this a few times before getting my first MTM suit and I followed all the suggestions. It resulted in a brilliant suit that I absolutely love. I often watch this video again from time to time to remind myself of the potential pitfalls of the MTM process so I can avoid them, even though I've now had 6 different garments made through MTM. Keep up the good work guys, this one of the few channels where I'll watch everything multiple times over.

Brian, You are absolutely correct! Nice to see that someone else is not recommending an online tailor made suit. The recommendations from my tailor made my first custom made suit that much more special. 👍👍 Brick and mortar is the way to go, I found an absolute professional tailor with decades if experience who made suggestions but ALL decisions were up to me for my suit.

Thanks you for the video. I'm going for my first M2M fitting tomorrow and thank god I came across your channel. I had no idea M2M wasn't bespoke! I thought I was going to be getting a one of kind suit made from scratch. I'm so glad I learned this now and not tomorrow. Even though it's not Bespoke, I'm going to go ahead with the M2M suit for this event as a natural step up from my normal Nordstrom OTR. I just paid $900 for a Hugo Boss jacket that I quickly found out from good ole KZbin & reddit, is an overpriced piece of garage. I'm returning it tomorrow after my fitting. I'm so upset at myself for buying $1000 plus suits off the rack all these years, when I could have spent a little more and got at least an M2M. You live you learn I guess. Anyway, thanks again and you gained a new subscriber.

I never forget when I was 22 years old, I walked into a Mens Warehouse and I was completely overwhelmed and completely RUINED by the guy that took my measurements. He was an older gentlemen. He ended up making me spend $1000 on two suits that were way too big and old fashioned. I never wore them. THIS TIME, Im going to a much better establishment and much more prepared. Thanks for these tips.

I had a similar experience, at first I thought I was buying a quality product. Then I realized the suit was two sizes too big and how it didn't breathe. I ended up giving the suits away and went with a Lazio fit suit from Suitsupply. Though not bespoke, it's a great value buy with great fabrics (mine came with VBC wool), so much more comfortable than the MW suits made from synthetic garbage, and I get several compliments with each wear. I look forward to the day when I can add some bespoke clothing to my wardrobe. Always quality > quantity when it comes to clothing, cheers!

Thanks for the tips! One thing a lot of channels seem to forget to mention is the dangers of weight lifting too much. In particular go easy on the bench press or else you'll find that you won't be able to fit into your 3 piece tailor made suit.

Great video Brian! Id love an additional video on getting into bespoke clothing, and what to mention to the tailor such as asymmetries or shoulder stance, and just how extensive bespoke can or should be
@hespokestyle6 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Edward. Have definitely thought of doing a video focused on bespoke. I've had one true, true bespoke experience and that was from the legendary Edward Sexton. Completely next level. I'm also having him make me a dinner jacket for my wedding, which I'm having the first fitting for in two weeks. As far as mentioning asymmetries and such to a tailor--if he's a good tailor, you shouldn't need to mention that at all!

A good tailor will notice every fault in your body. When I was 25 I went to Bernard Weatherell, at the time a famous bespoke tailor in NYC. The tailor's assistant called out my measurements. Then the tailor himself said in a loud voice "put down no hips and bowed legs". Ouch.

I wish I would have seen this video before my purchase, My first mtm suit experience was a blast. I went to Kashiyama on Madison Ave. I went to all the normal stores Macy's Bloomingdale Mens Wearhouse and couldn't find a decent suit being a bigger guy doesn't help. Kashiyama was a great experience and the person who helped me was really attentive and asked what I was looking for in a suit which was a suit for a interview. He helped me with colors lapels, vents, lining etc I even got my suit monogrammed lol now that's fancy. I waited 3 weeks or so I picked up my suit at the store and had another fitting everything was good however. I love my new suit and very happy I went with a made to measure suit. Now I'm putting together a satorial wardrobe Im working on ties and have some nice brown capped toe Oxford's. I also have some Charles Thyrwhitt dress shirts from England which is ridiculous for me.

Thanks for the tips but I’m gonna stick with off the rack suits (quality off the racks that fit me well not Macy’s). Black lapel is 2 for 2 in disappointing me with their suits (returned one and keeping my latest one due to 30 days passing and it will collect dust, may throw it away or give it away if I can’t get any type of credit) and I officially lost patience with them. I went in person to get measured a few times then remeasured, and at times I got the vibe they go more towards trends and not what the customer wants. They just can’t get it right with my measurements and my body type isn’t anything that difficult either. Even alterations didn’t fix the suit. At least they get my dress shirt measurements right. I still buy their shirts but am done with their suits. What would your advice be if I decide to go use another MTM company like indochino or mysuit. Also, referring to the end of your video. How do I know my MTM experience was crap. There is more I dislike about my MTM garment than I do like. I definitely don’t like everything about it.

Oliver Wicks have even pretty good for me. They give a good amount of credit for alterations and have quality fabrics. You can also have your tailor fill out a form of the alterations they made so that next suit you order is better fitting.

Thank you so much for the advice! I'm looking at SuitSupply and Alton Lane right now for my wedding suit. Do you have any other recommendations? I live in SC, but I'm willing to drive to GA or NC to get measured and buy the suit in an actual shop.
@hespokestyle5 жыл бұрын
If you're between those two, I would definitely go with Suitsupply. Just be extra sure you're confident in what you want going in, especially in the fit department, because I have found Suitsupply stylists to be a bit pushy and willing to put people into fits they often shouldn't be wearing, like a pant leg that is much too narrow. Good luck!

I think a good follow up would be what to expect with bespoke clothing. I have a few friends, who have gotten suits made bespoke for them for a few different tailors and they were at first "unhappy" with the result of it not being 110% perfect. I had to explain to them that it wouldn't be your first go around with a tailor, but is something that will take a few items to get actually perfect. Doesn't seem to be a lot of good in depth knowledge regarding bespoke.

In Asia they can get custom suits done in a few days. 4 to 8 weeks is terrible..ppl can die during that length of time. They dont work hard enough in the west 😏
@ghcheong2 ай бұрын
The only reason people can make a suit in a few days is because they are fused garments. Where the canvassing are glued to the fabric and the pattern is quite generic and don't accommodate for one's physique.
@roychefets69614 жыл бұрын
Stay away from anything trendy; it will look terrible in 5 years. Don't accept a suit that requires significant alterations to the shoulders.

What if they promised that you’d be able to get your suit for an event but then once the initial suit comes in tells you that 2 weeks from the event that they have a 2 week blackout period? Can we then ask for exceptions and for them to expedited?
