"Basically just care" best quote ever bro. That´s a great and so simple tip. Just to care it means a lot and it makes a huge difference. That´s the best way to build a community, make friends, to get real followers, business contact and all that. Thanks for this cool video !!!!
@LarryWilliamsArtist4 жыл бұрын
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Yeah; it really should be obvious, but unfortunately most people make it about themselves. All of those things you said are 10000 percent true, but it's also much more fulfilling on your end as well to treat someone else with care. If this was all about me, there is ZERO chance I would still be doing KZbin on this level. I'd just post time lapses to have them stored somewhere, and that would be it. It's the human element that gives this meaning. Really good to see you back on Jay, I hadn't seen you, or any uploads for a minute-

As a new KZbinr, I find what you've said very important. Since the theme of this video is networking, in my case, you were the first person (that I don't know), that commented to my channel and the first thing that came up to my mind was checking your channel to see your work. Thank you for that, because it gave me a huge boost!
@LarryWilliamsArtist4 жыл бұрын
Dude; you have some really nice covers, that are played and shot well. My comment was genuine. There are real people out there that watch your work; you just have to be proactive, an start reaching out to other musicians and artists. KZbin will not do anything to help you with finding an audience until you can start to get the ball rolling- unfortunately. Thank you for taking the time to lmk; comments like this actually give ME a huge boost. Keep playing, and NETWORK! 🤘🤘

Thank you so much for sharing this video. Honestly, when someone types out a GENUINE comment, I can immediately tell and I watch their videos in return. It’s the fact that the comment showed that the person actually cares! I agree with everything you said in the video!

It stands out because it's so rare- unfortunately. Most people do the standard copy and paste generic b.s., and it comes off as very self serving. It takes a lot more time and effort, but it's also endlessly more satisfying on a human level to feel good about supporting others. And it turns out that people will almost always want to support you in return. Your Premiere is up and scheduled on the Channel!! ;)

It is so refreshing to receive advice for growing a channel that is not based on what some silly computer algorithm requires. I do a little bit of this and will definitely up my efforts. It's also a great motivator to receive a genuine comment. It's nice to realize someone took the time to think about the content in your video long enough to leave more than a few superficial words. Thank you.
@LarryWilliamsArtist4 жыл бұрын
Yep. Honestly, it's the only thing that works for small channels. SEO and Keywords are not as useful as people think they are- unless you are already established. KZbin has created a system in which the smaller channels really have to fight and scrap to gain ANY kind of momentum. The good news is, that this actually works. Like I said in the vid; it is slow, and takes a long time- but you WILL see growth. And it will be real growth, with people who actually care about you. And then you can start gradually taking that, and building from it. You are so welcome, it is a pleasure to have you here 🙏 I'm always around if you have any questions you think I might be able to help with.

I agree with you 100%, networking is super important, in the beginning I thought being a KZbin artist is just making cool art videos everyday, but slowly I learn that I'm only using 20% of the time making the art, and 80% of the time promoting, networking, and trying everything I can to get by video out there.... people don't just show up and start watching your videos, so you are very right and thanks for making this video and share your wonderful knowledge to the KZbin artist community, thanks for the support, what comes around goes around 😉
@LarryWilliamsArtist4 жыл бұрын
That percentage sounds about right, but that is how it is in the art business as well- especially when you are starting out. The good thing is, the more you establish yourself, the more that network and audience starts to work in your favor. I still spend a good amount of time networking, and promoting. But it's much less than it used to be when I first started the channel. The more you can get it rolling, the more it starts working in your favor and you can focus moreso on the actual art. You have a really unique style Richie; I think if you keep at it you'll find your audience. Thanks for stopping by, and welcome to the Community :)

Thank you Larry for all this kindness..😊 each artist has her/ his personal preference with art style and subjects. But one thing should be common.. Genuine Art should provide positivity to all.. It should create happiness during the art process.. And later on provide joy, encouragement and inspiration to your spectator... Mostly it should help one to become a better person... Thank you for being so helpful.. Bet you have been an artist for so long 😊

Phenomenal comment and insight. I couldn't agree more. ALL styles of art are valid, and can contribute. I know not everyone is into the darker side, or sees the positivity in work like mine. But I know from selling thousands of prints, and meeting thousands of people in person that it has brought joy to a lot of people. Art is always a positive, as long as it is real and genuine. My Mom used to say I was drawing as soon as I could pick up a pencil, lol. I think most of us are that way :)

Larry the more videos of yours I watch the more I am in awe, you always keep it real, point out the pit falls with the good stuff. You are so genuine. I don't like face book, twitter and all those, do you think I need to get involved with social network to be able to make it? Thank you my friend.
@LarryWilliamsArtist3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much Gillian; I have always just tried to be who I am. I talk about it in the Q&A Follow up vid I just scheduled, but if I had created a big persona that I had to live up to that wasn't me, it would take a lot of the fun out of all of this. IMO (for what it's worth) I think both FB and Twitter are overrated for artists. I had about 10,000 Facebook followers at one point, and it did NOTHING for my sales, commissions, or my career. I have never had a Twitter; I just can't force myself. I really don't think what I have to say at any point in the day is that critically important that I have to write Tweets so everyone knows what I am thinking/doing. It probably would be smart to get one, but I just can't do it. I do think Instagram is incredibly valuable. It's the perfect medium for artists, because it's primarily a visual platform, and it's quick and easy to get your work/projects up in front of people. With the attention span of this generation being what it is, it's easy to grab people's attention with quick pics of your work, and what you are doing. Having as much of a presence on social media as possible is great; having a FB and Twitter definitely won't hurt you, but I think IG (and now Tic ToK) are best for artists. What trumps them all is actually getting out on the road, and doing shows. That is how I get about 80 percent of my commissions, and probably 60-70 percent of my total income for the year comes directly from being on the road. Nothing can replace being face to face with thousands of other humans. That might be the longest reply I've ever typed ;p
@gilliansartflow-anartexplo65543 жыл бұрын
@@LarryWilliamsArtist Thank you, get where you are coming from with twitface as I usually call them, if I want to know what someone's had for breakfast I'll give them a ring. I've avoided tic toc and IG like the plague but I'll give them a look over. Meanwhile, as you say face to face, I have sold around 6 paintings just by showing people pictures of them on my phone, I was thinking about having my own art show in my garden sometime over the summer but the insurance for people being on my property for "commercial" purpose was through the roof even just for one day, so I'm back at the drawing board so to speak. Be careful or we will start a competition to see who can get you to write the longest reply hahaha.
@LarryWilliamsArtist3 жыл бұрын
Yeah; I don't want to judge, or put anyone down- but I grew up in the generation before social media, and I just don't get the obsession with it. If not for business, I would have NO online presence to be honest. The taking pictures of food thing totally baffles me, but to each their own. The face to face allows people not only to see your art in person, but to get to know YOU. I've found that when people have a connection to the person behind the art, they are much more inclined to become attached to the art itself. Which can be a great business tool. May I ask where you live? Depending on your location, you may have options that don't involve you having to worry about people on your property. There are Saturday markets, craft fairs, small shows etc. in almost every city. You just have to know how to find them. The other plus to doing that, is that you get to network with other artists and people in the art world that you might not necessarily run into just doing something by yourself. I've had gallery offers, people in the movie industry, music people etc. all from just going to shows and networking. This is one of my favorite things about the whole KZbin experience. Being able to interact with, and connect with people like yourself is what really keeps me going with it. ;)
@gilliansartflow-anartexplo65543 жыл бұрын
@@LarryWilliamsArtist I live in York, North Yorkshire in the UK. I have thought about trying to get involved with "shows" but, in truth, I don't think I'm ready to expose myself to that, I have "imposter syndrome" when it come to my art purely because I didn't do any formal training for it. It's weird how the world works though, because I have, just this week connected with someone (my new personal trainer) who is going to help me get my art into a couple of independent coffee shops in town that are owned by friends of hers, and that, again is purely from photos on my phone that aren't that great, but it appears my pictures are different enough from "traditional art work" they are eye catching. Being in the right place at the right time or what! I did think about going into town one lunch time and just sitting on a bench with one of my canvasses propped against my leg to see what would happen lol, if I ever pluck up courage to do that I'll let you know what happens. Stay safe my friend.

Gilllian; I have nothing against art school, but some of the best artists in the world didn't have formal training, so that is not a prerequisite. Work and craft development can be performed outside the walls of a school, or inside. Huge congrats! This is what I am constantly saying; just the act of being out there somewhere increases your chances that something will happen. Please lmk how it goes, if you do get your work up.

Been kind and supportive is exactly the way I did the last years. The thing for me is - it just doesnt work. I have met so many people within the last 4 years and my experience is: people support each other as long they have small channels. But as soon they are on the growing point, I never hear anything of them again. Not all, there are a few of them who are still very loyal, but most people are giving a f***k of me as soon as they are big enough to earn money on KZbin. And this is just frustrating and disappointing.
@LarryWilliamsArtist3 жыл бұрын
Sure it does. I do it every day. What I laid out in this video, is exactly how I've built my channel. I'm quite transparent. When channels grow, it becomes difficult to manage every comment, every email, every DM and every request, while also watching and commenting on every new video that comes out- and to individually support every single channel you have ever connected with. That's just the nature of time. As your channel grows, that is just not possible at a certain point. I did Features back in the day for people that have gone on to grow their own channels to a much larger size than mine. I don't hear from a lot of those people anymore, and I am completely happy FOR THEM, and I consider it a great success when someone else grows. I then move on to supporting and networking with new artists on the come up. I still leave comments on your channel regularly, and engage and maintain real world relationships with people that have been in the Community since the very beginning. A lot of channel growth is up to YOU as well. You might want to consider doing some personal videos, so people can get to know you on a personal level. Studio tours, higher production values, vlogs etc. Look into promoting some of your videos on other channels, or using google ads so other artists can see your work. You have to be proactive if you want to grow. That's how it works Manuel. I wish you the best. I'll always be around to support you as best I can. Larry-

Thank you for this very informative video Larry! I have been what you would call a "loner" most of my teenage and adult life. 😂 So this is definitely something that helped me. Going to try my best to connect and network with folks - this would be something to get out of my comfort zone.

I can relate; I think most artists are this way. That's why it's so important to try and get past that, and reach out. It's the only way people will find you :)

The biggest hint is in the name "social media" ... its social. Always seems like people get the media part. Occasionally see posts / videos with hundreds of comments but not a single reply from the creator. Generally always skip over those channels / accounts

You get it; most people don't. Yeah; interacting and speaking with people/getting to know them is one of the more rewarding things about doing all of this; I don't know why you'd want an audience if you didn't want to engage them or know who they are. Glad you found the vid ;)

That is most definitely what I struggle with ... networking ... I start off doing great then because I'm not a very social person ... I get mentally drained and I stop doing that ... but a few months later or a year later I pick it back up lol I just can't keep it up for long

Yeah; I saw you back on the other day and made a comment. I missed your work. I literally follow the exact same pattern, for the exact same reasons. I just force myself to get content out when I'm in those moods- mainly because I feel a responsibility to the Community, but I always feel better after I make a video. Just try and get out one piece a month, and network for an hour once a week. You'll see things start to happen, and then work it at your own pace from there. Really cool to speak with you again Danielle 😊😊 Hope you and yours are doing well in this time of madness.

I so appreciate this. And I have to say, I very much appreciate the casual and genuine tone (specifically colorful language lol). This might not seem like a big deal but I’ve always talked that way when teaching “Don’t be a dick” haha. Occasionally I think 🤔 Maybe I should be more formal but then I remember that I always love when other people communicate in a natural way. Excellent tips...I was forgetting to do this myself. Thank you 💗

Really fantastic comment. I've gone through a similar thought process a few times, but this is who I am. I'm not going to put on a fake or enhanced persona, it's just not me. I think that's fine if your natural personality is very over the top, but it is kind of sad for me personally to see other people trying to do the "KZbin thing", when it's obviously not who they really are. It goes against YT's *official* advice, but I'd rather make genuine connections with real people as me, than have an army of people I have to act for. Be YOU. People will appreciate you for it ;) Thank you so much for your feedback, it made my day 😊 🙏
