After doing theatre work for 3 years, I realized he just summed up my entire experience in 2 minutes. You're taught to approach and handle scenes in this exact way. Lines are nothing, it's what's in between them that you have to memorize. Once you learn to embody the truth to your man, the lines come naturally.
@lisagennamore-fq8bq Жыл бұрын
Because you are a natural
@rembo1839 ай бұрын
No matter what, You do need to know the lines to do the performance. But you need to convey true meaning and the reality of the scene. The truth. The lines or script is essential as a foundation which must be memorized to act. Forgetting lines is not going to work. After you,learn the lines they become less important and in the final analysis are not critical to success. It’s the truth and meaning you convey and the way you make it real. So the lines are important to build on. Memorize them for audition or you’ll fail for sure!

This is the best advice! The way we were taught in drama school follows the same philosophy. Instead of Rote-learning, understand what is actually happening in the scene and try and conceptualise it. Once you understand the scene, the lines will come to you naturally, so reading it over and over is definitely a much better approach, like Matthew says

So good, no, so great, and that performance really falls in line with what you say in the video, a true example of a character coming to life! I think that film hours is not quite enough for that to happen, especially complex characters like Rust are more suited for a "long movie" format. Blessings from Italy.

This is super cool! It reminds me of how music performers are always asked how they remember all those notes they're playing. And, interestingly, their reaction is exactly the same. The great performers don't think about the notes at all. They know the material so well that they can really make music instead of merely playing notes. Just like Mr. McConaughey can really act as opposed to just reciting lines. Awesome stuff.

As a musician this makes total sense. Both acting and music is an art form. Its one thing to just recite a line or play a single measure of a song, but what does each line actually convey? Why was this measure of this music written, how does it form the whole picture, the whole emotional message, etc?

I have done various sketches and other actor performances in front of audiences on various occasions, and I have heard that I apparently seem to have great potential as an actor, and my "trick" is generally to simply truly feel like the character that I am playing, with real emotions and everything - basically, "method acting". This really adds a deep level of believable realism to everything.

If theres one thing Ive learned that can send people over seemingly impossible obstacles, its to truely enjoy what one is doing, to have passion... submerge yourself and put the rest aside or a moment..

Very intresting approach, can't be wrong. Thank you Mr McConaughey for sharing. The idea I used (in my very limited theater experience), is 1st read the text by reading in (seeing) in silence, then the 2nd time read it out loud (to hear it), 3rd write down (feel) some of the important lines you liked, then have someone read it with you and finally talk about it. That way, all the information end up in the same hub but go there conected with different wires. That, is another method to get that variety that Mr McConaughey is talking about.
