Thank you for this video! It was very helpful. It gave me some peace of mind. I have been tattooing for 12 years now. Certified in tattooing and face pigmentation. Ive been to a few local tattoo shops with no luck on landing a job. So now I have decided to open up my own shop. Have a meeting with the city council and present my business idea this upcoming Wednesday! I am nervous but yet super excited. This video gave me that little extra push on opening up my own studio! Hey there! Did you need to open an LLC to start? Or basically all you need to legally work at your studio is an insurance for your property/consent form + public health inspection? Is that correct?

What brand could you recommend for a pentype tattoo machine and Ink brand

There are so many to choose from it’s hard to say! I use a Bishop wand. And in the most part I’m happy with it. It depends on your budget and how you tattoo as to what works best. If you work in a studio or do guest spots try and borrow other artists machines and see what you like! Same with ink brands, there are loads and depends if you use colour, or just use black (and grey) how dark and crisp you want. I use dynamic black in and the 666 set of silverback grey wash. I hope that helps!

How do you pay yourself vs the shop? Or both?

Hey! I have my own studio now so I pay myself, however I have a separate account that I put money in for tax and for equipment. When I worked at a studio it was usually the front of house/ receptionist that collected the money and would give the artists what they earned at the end of the day. Some studios let you deal with your own customers and pay the studio at the end of the day! I hope that has answered your question :)

I have an accountant. You can the self assessment yourself or pay someone else to do it :)
