Looks like this'll be a bit of game changer, at least for me, so thanks for the huge tip! I don't use a particularly fast laptop for editing and I always suffer from laggy playback in preview and editing. I have a couple of questions I hope you could answer please: - When starting a new project, I rarely know exactly which video clips I will be using. So once I've edited the files I initially chose but then decide to add other (original resolution) files I want to use, will the fact I have it set to use Proxy files automatically convert these hi-res files to proxies? There's a warning window shown at 6:36 mins that says "Do you want to create missing proxies for every file in this project?" - does that mean the programme automatically does so for any new files I want to add mid-project? - My second question is at the same warning window, can you explain what it means "You must reopen your project after all proxy jobs are finished". I maybe missed it but I don't think you made reference to this when you exported your project as the final .mp4 file. Thanks.

I created a Proxy like you did but my 2.6 GB file did not do the proxy rendering as yours did on screen around mark 7:05 of this video. All the proxy settings are checked. I do happen to have hardware encoding checked as my CPU can assist in hardware encoding but I never saw the actual proxy rendering as you showed. What am I doing wrong? I am on version 21.08.22 of Shotcut and only using ONE file instead of many but it still should make a proxy of that one at 360p. My proxy folder on the desktop is empty =( EDIT: I think I just had to uncheck "Proxy" and recheck it and it went ahead and started creating the proxy file all over again. Very weird how it never did that the first time. Thanks for the great video btw! I am leaving what I typed originally so anyone having the same issues gets the problem and solution as one post.

Thank you so much for the video! I have a question: how would we color grade with the full resolution of the video? Should we export the video in full resolution and reload it into Shotcut to color grade, or is there an easier way to do that?
@BenEspanto3 жыл бұрын
The best thing to do is edit your entire timeline in Proxy Mode and save Color Grading until the very end. You want this to be the very last step before you export. When you're ready to color grade, turn off proxy mode and preview scaling so that you are color grading at full resolution. In this stage, Shotcut will run VERY slow, but you need to see it in full resolution so you can properly color grade.
