Hey, something I've started doing when watering my potted plants is a combination of 2 things. First I started putting shredded cardboard on the bottom inch of my pots to help hold moister. Secondly I started dictating the amount of watering per container based on how fast it absorbs. I've been amazed at how much LESS water I need to saturate the pot if I water slower. With only a dribble or 2 coming out the bottom. Which reduces your nutrients wash out.

Do you poke holes in your (container)soil to better wet the soil of the whole container. I sometimes find that the soil isn't wet thur out the container

I don’t, but if you want to make sure your soil is getting enough water throughout. You can get a watering stake or a piece of pvc, drill holes in it and bury it in the container. That way you can water in the pipe and it gets down into the soil. The bottom half of your container is going to retain a lot of moisture even though the top half may be dry.
