Hi Tabi, thanks so much for sharing. Quick question, there are a lot of video on youtube about medical social work in ER units, what about those in different unit, like oncology. It seems like ER the role of a social worker is like a discharge planner, but I wonder how other roles might look like? What about follow-up appointment, brief solution-focused therapy, CBT? Many thanks!

That's a great question! I did Oncology Social Work in both the inpatient setting and outpatient setting. There is some discharge planning but a lot of it is psychoeducation, care coordination, connecting patients to resources, solution focused brief therapy, mindfulness based therapy, CBT and supportive therapy. I did individual therapy and ran support groups. I'm happy to make a more detailed video in the near future! Thanks for your support!

I am going to apply to a bachelor social work but I am worried how they want two letters of recommendation. 😢😢 and the autobiographical essay is hard. I don’t know what to say.

It's an anxiety provoking step to take! SW is a great field to be in!🥰The essay is about you. Who knows you better than yourself? Speak of your life experience (whatever that looks like marriage, divorce, children, loss. etc), your values [look at the NASW Code of Ethics and see if those values match your own] and connect them to how your family and experiences have shaped you to be the person you are today. And how all of that will make you a great social worker to help the population you enjoy working with. SW is about the person-in-environment. So, you're basically showing the college how your environment and systems have impacted you and the ways you've used that to move forward past your adversities. We all live them, write about them.
