I really like your videos and this was one with really great tips! I am an older lady rider, I have a love hate relationship with Harley Davidson. Recently I have been looking for a used motor and....I went straight to the local HD! I had already done my due diligence research on what I might want. This is my dealership experience. I had been on the lot about 5 minutes when a sales guy met me outside at the used bikes on their lot. I was eyeballing an Electra Glide and asked him the price of the bike. NOTE: None of the bikes new or used, inside or outside had a price tag or identifying information on them! Strike 1! I asked the sales guy (I'll call him PunkDog!) I asked him for the price of the bike. Punkdog said, "The best part of my job is that I don't need to know the prices." Strike 2....REALLY!!! (sarcastically). As we walked around he began to ask me about financing and payments that I wanted. I said, "To lay the ground work here, the money part comes after the choosing the motor part. We haven't gotten there yet. To get to the point of this ever increasing saga, I asked Punkdog a bunch of questions, some of them I already knew, but I wanted to figure out his knowledge. I finally found a Heritage Classic that was beautiful. I hadn't seen that color anywhere before. After talking about it for a while, sitting on it, listening to the rumble!!! I thought I was being too obvious and enthusiastic about how much I liked it. I asked him the price! He deflected my question asking about my riding ability and if I had an endorsement etc.... I told him that yes, I have an endorsement. How much is the bike? He said, "Well how about a test drive and when you come back I tell you the price." I'm not test driving anything until I know the price. Punkdog said, "Come over to my desk and I'll get you the price. I thought, Finally! Well, Punkdog asked me my first name and I told him which I thought was a bit late, he should have gotten that first thing. Then he asked me my last name and driver license number. WhaWhat? You don't need that to give me the price. He never gave me the price and we walked out. You may be hoping that t hat is the end, but no. I got home and search different websites to find that bike. I found it on at least 3 different sites! It was 16,999 which was an excellent price. I emailed them asking for an out the door price with full disclosure (so there is no misunderstanding) I got a call the next day, but no ODP. They were asking me to schedule an appt and come in to talk about it. I do not want to go in. I asked again, please give me a written ODP so I can review it. I never got the quote. Three days later I still didn't have a quote. I went back on there site to find that they had RAISED the price of the bike by $1,000. It said $18,999 which was marked out and below that it said 17,999, reduced, save $1000! What kind of shady, underhanded, crooked eye used dealership crap is that!? I would have bought that bike in a heartbeat, not the day I went into the store initially, but I would have come back and they ruined the whole thing! I will never even go back to RAGING BULL HD in DURHAM, NC ever again. I am now looking for a Yamaha FJR1300! I have never ridden a sport bike in my life, but I will now! Sorry for how long this is, but people need to know that they should be willing to WALK AWAY! Don't let emotion get you. If in your gut you aren't getting questions answered and feel it's not right, WALK. Keep making great content!

Lol a HD experience so bad, they turned you into a sport bike rider. That's intense.

Thanks Alex. I’m looking at a couple specific leftover models right now to save $ but to find them may have to buy out of state. This will help me when walking into a strange dealership. My local dealership pretty much sold everything he had during the pandemic.
@AlexSimmons11c3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have found that to be a weird problem right now, during this past year of pandemic nonsense a lot of dealer sold out of certain inventory, so now it is harder to find and some dishonest dealers want to charge a premium...I would hunt for the deals and not give in to greedy dealers for sure!

Great video Alex. I got an email quote from a dealer for a 2021 Honda Rebel 300 here in S Fla. Price $4,499. Dealer/Freight $563.60. Dealer Prep/Setup $324. Dealer Fee $399. SubTotal = $5785.60... THEN they charged the sales tax of 7%. Plus the tag/license .. Total OTD is $6,591.19. Is this a total Rip Off or what? Are they allowed to add the fees to the bike and then the sales tax?
@mynamejeff20062 жыл бұрын
Yep before signing anything its best to look over what youre paying for. If the reciept has the bike, sales tax, and interest... most fees should be part of the price of the bike if youre going to a good dealer.
@wolfster2287 Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Two weeks ago I was in the same situation. I looked at a bike that was listed as $3800. The guy said he’s going to run some numbers and he’ll be back to give me the total price. He came back with a $5900 total price I walked out. Talk about a bloody rip off.

I walked into a local Powersports dealer, looking at a 2022 Kawasaki Z400 ABS with an MSRP of $5199, after taxes, title, and fees (including $1900 for freight fees), it was over $9k to walk out the door. Almost twice the MSRP!!! is this typical?

Seee this is exactly what I’m looking for every one is doing/explaining the same thing: what to do, what to say, not to act to interested, but no one is talking about numbers For Example New Carsales in Houston you can negotiate the registration down to 130$ or less, dealer fees can be removed off of your breakdown and freight charges are negotiable aswell. But Again that’s for Cars (What is negotiable for motorcycles)
@RyguyIQ3 ай бұрын
Don’t pay more than 85$ doc fee and 150 in freight, just MSRP tax registration and possible up to 150 in fright because it’s a real fee they pay for. Don’t pay any dealer markups
@whendashow69353 жыл бұрын
This guy explained nothing, what about the FEEES, all the blather about MSRP and negotiating from that is pointless when the dealer can just make up whatever they want with wacky fees, how about explain the fees aside from tax and registration, what fees should we be paying, about how much should they cost, what fees should we not be paying for.....
@willblast56843 жыл бұрын
Yeah he tells you to negotiate before taxes & fees.... Negotiate the out the door price only, who cares how much they want to charge for fees & tax as long as it adds up to the total price you've agreed on OTD.

The Yamaha R6 can still be found new but cost more than original cost. It is also a bike dealerships can't get more of because they don't make the street legal model anymore.

Something else I found out. The add-on's that the previous owner put on. The dealership wants to charge you for that too. But I know the dealership did not give the previous owner value for those add-on's. It does not matter if it has after market stuff. The dealer did not pay extra for it why should the second owner?

I’m looking to buy a new Honda Navi which is 1,807 brand new for my first bike and I called a dealer to see what the OTD price would be and since they haven’t sold any yet he can’t tell me forsure but he is guessing around $2,700. How the hell is there $1,000 on top of MSRP. Like what… I’m going in with cash so hoping they will wave the destination fees and etc..
@Voltomess2 жыл бұрын
dude don't even start that topic with Navi because it's ridiculous !!! people paying $3500-3800 OTD for those bikes this is FU...G ridiculous what dealers charge for them!!! those things go for $800 OTD in Mexico and $500 OTD in India I wanted this bike but when dealers in my area were like $3000-3500 I said fuck NOOOOO

If you’re willing to pay the cost listed on the bike plus sales tax is that a good deal? So essentially if the bike is 5k, I’m willing to pay 5k for the bike plus tax but I’m not paying the shipping,tag and title or the license which all that stuff comes out to another 800-1k...is that a terrible way to make a deal or is that’ smart?

Hey Alex I paid 5k for a new SR400, but they also charged me 600 for a freight fee is that normal? The bike had been on their lot since I'm guessing 2018.
@AlexSimmons11c4 жыл бұрын
That’s definitely excessive, I’m used to seeing “freight and setup” fees but honestly those fees are complete crap and just extra profitability for the dealer, and should not be charged on a “leftover” model still on the lot. Enjoy your bike, and next time just tell them you’ll buy but you’re not paying that!

Great tips, but unfortunately due to the Joe Biden economy, dealerships can't even GET these bikes. I called 14 dealerships for a GSXR 750 and NONE had one in stock. I then called them back and asked about a ZX6R. Two had them, one each, one in a color I didn't like. So in 14 dealerships, I found ONE that actually had the bike I was looking for. They are not willing to negotiate. They can't keep these bikes in stock. They get one in and it's gone the next day. So they will NOT negotiate on price. You WILL pay AT LEAST MSRP right now.
@Snowburnt10 ай бұрын
Yes! Dealerships play on the so called supply and demand. When I bought my Grom, the price would have been $10,000 after it's finance period. I walked out the door with MSRP with cash instead at the time. Insane!
