Do not leave anything that you can do today on tomorrow. Even if it is due 2 weeks from now. Things can snowball really quick and often you wont predict correctly how long does this or that homework takes.

Additions: 1. Find a core group of students to study and do hw with. Students who share the same study habits and can bring each other up to succeed. 2. Develop good relationships with your professors. Chat with them after class about the lectures. Go to office hours about difficult labs or upcoming exams. Distinguish yourself from other students by showing face, showing you care, and put in extra time!! 3. Social skills. Success in engineering is more than math and science and grade. Your communication, outside the box thinking, and leadership skills is what will carry you to succeed in the world outside of college :) Good luck guys!!

Good list. I will also add to this regular exercising. At the very least, get in the habit of 3-4 days a week of half an hour cardio (running, swimming, playing outdoors with friends). In college, you have to walk a lot from class to class and climb so many stairs, and do groceries, and still need to get good sleep to focus well in class. Exercises helps in building endurance for your body as well as your mind. If your body is not strong enough, you will find yourself too tired after all day of classes to do any reading by yourself. Develop the exercise habit early in your college. So you don't fall behind just because you have been "too tired lately" and every time you open a book, you find yourself snoozing off. Don't be that person. Eat well, sleep well, and exercise, if you want good grades.

Regular exercising keeps a healthy endorphin flow, helps you sleep, helps your positivity, you feel better, etc.

Also do not be shy to talk with your professor or T.A.s. Tutors are also excellent.

Right now im in the middle of my 12th grade-semester1 realizing my false choices and i hope it is not too late to turn things around. my dream is petroleum engineering or mechanical or may be even chemical and i came up with a plan to recover my bad grades but to do so, completely, i needed your advice which is very similar to my parents' which i failed to listen at. thnx to this video and keep boosting our determination with your amazing videos. peace out Sir.

Nicely said. College is an unstructured environment vs. high school which causes many to flounder. My BSME class started with 45 students, we graduated 17. But, having been in engineering for 35 years (I'm a 3rd generation engineer), I have used calculus once since I graduated. Only really need algebra to work the problems. After graduating you especially need the soft skills, since many problems are really people problems. Need to learn Solidworks.

About the "work with other people" and "getting to know your professor", these two are *EXTREMELY* IMPORTANT now more than ever! In this day and age, its absolutely vital to start building a network of people you can refer or refer to you to once youre out of college and putting that degree to use. The more people you know, the more contacts you'll get, and the more "known" you'll get. And if you can during your time in school, find internships, find work, find *anything* that'll build up your resume because many MANY jobs these days require you to have a certain time of work experience or have contacts that trust your ability.
@thatdudewelove84988 жыл бұрын
+RIISCO T I cannot stress it enough- most businesses today do not care about your degree- well they do- but they care more about your work history and how efficient you are because the engineering degree means that you are a demanding person who gets the work done yesterday. Engineering is hard, but it is well rewarding for those who are willing to be proactive and become something more than themselves.

man i wish i knew how important the basics of calculus was. never took it seriously and took it like how i studied in hs, just cramming at the last second, so i didn't retain the most fundamental concepts and had to constantly review it on my own as i go through advanced courses. Being a relatively bright student(while in hs) can be a disadvantage in college cos you don't develop the proper study habits to excell in college.

After learning a topic, try teaching it amongst your friend group. You will become the master when you have a student to teach. Unknowingly, your brain will become conditioned to find simple ways of looking at a problem and this really helps when you need to bank those easy marks on exams, giving you more time to crack the challenging problems.
