Certainly the best lesson on this (very much ignored) subject I found so far and I ended the search! I think it would be nice if you could take this to the next level, with more complex rhythms, chord progressions, riffs etc. I would be very willing to buy next level lessons from your great website and I think others too! Thank you so much, I wish I came across your lessons, long, long time ago, all the best!

Thanks Jerry for the BEST LESSON, on this subject. I made a big mistake when I started learning to play, and that was to not do what you explain here. I learn my riffs by vocalizing them, but not when trying to play songs with chords and rhythm. This is what I will concentrate on now, and bring my skills to a new level. Going to stay on this lesson, until I get it right. Peace

I'll add something that helped me and this is especially for people that look at tabs online, chords aren't always switched immediately after the last word of the line it may continue on for another bar or so and conversely the next line doesnt always start as soon as you switch chords. And there might be a chord in between words that get up to a whole bar. And the guitar can still be strummed while switching chords if you get to that root note fast.

Hi Jerry!😀 this song reminds me when i was about 3 or 4 year old. When my father ask me to sing it in a gathering with my relatives back in 1968 i think.. Nice video learned a lot from it. Thank you Jerry.

Gerry is a great instructor. I thought I was musically challenged because I couldn't play and sing at the same time. Now I know I need more rhythm practice. A concept that eluded me until this video.

Good Video - very helpful ..wish I'd seen this a few years back when I really struggled with "multitasking" Still find sing with certain rhythms ( such as a spread patter blues sequence) is quite hard.Will have to watch the 2nd part now fingerpicking ...Thanks

At 11:15 "Try this pattern now" - Down - Down - Up - Down - Down - Up - One... This where I got confused and feel you should have thoroughly explained what the pattern is. Is it: Down - Down - Up - Down - Down - Up - Down - Down - Down - Up - Down - Down - Up - Down? Or does it just start for like that and then become. Down - Up - Down - Up?

On the 3 you up-strum but still tap foot - right?
@JerrysGuitarBar
@JerrysGuitarBar 7 жыл бұрын
No. You want to tap the foot down on 1 2 3 and 4 and bring the foot up in between those beats - in musician speak on the 'ands'. If you strum every one of those you would strum down on the beats (1, 2, 3 4) and up on the 'ands' So 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 & corresponds to down up down up down up down up, both for strumming arm and tapping foot.
