When people ask me how long I've been painting portraits I typically will say "well, I drew my first portrait when I was 9, and I just never stopped." So, as I turn 70 in a couple weeks, it's been a long time. Even though I've watched countless KZbin videos showing portrait demonstrations, always trying to improve my work, I must say Scott's videos have been the most beneficial to me. From not "swishing" my brushes in thinner to focus on painting contours of the face your advice has really helped me improve. Thank you so much!

I’ve watched tons of painting tutorials yours are the best I never comment on anything but the way you break things down and value I get from your videos trumps everything else out there. You are a sage for those seeking deep understanding of art. You just don’t hold back. Thank you

Thank you, Scott! For me, one of the biggest mistakes I've made with the nose is making the nostril hole too dark. Thank you for explaining the intricate details of how to improve on this!

The way you talk about light and color, separately and together, in relation to form is mind-blowing - like a light bulb exploded in my brain! I was painting while listening to this but ended up frozen just watching your entire video. Like the reason why foreheads are typically more yellowish, and why reflective light could have high chroma, and where the highlights go and why answered so many questions for me. You don't just teach the 'how' but most importantly, the 'why' and everything just makes more sense now! I will see you on Patreon because your way of teaching (and with humor!) just makes sense to my brain. Thank you so much!!

Jk anyway glad to see you still painting I do all my commissions in procreate these days. Sometimes people call it art which make me laugh gleeful while seal clapping like a small child.

Tnx for good videos, what i really nead is ti know which color number/name collection I should use for each part of face , cause u only use them but for me its not obvious which color they are so it would be great if u make a video and talk about colors u use for each part of face tnx

Thank you so much.....I really appreciate the quality of your instruction...you have already helped me reduce and focus my palette leading to improved skin tones. I think about form so much more and although I have so much yet to learn through hours more experience I am inspired by your generous teaching. 🙂PS I do need to find your information on creating the cast shadows....do I use the same colours or introduce blues as has been suggested or that i might have done in watercolour?
