Blue book Forture telling is good, a lot of history, a little of Lenormand and Astrology. I like it a lot!

Great video! I’ve been collecting a few playing card decks because I’ve always been interested in learning to read them but have struggled to find good resources so I really appreciated this video! Definitely added a couple new books to my reading list! LOL I just received my copy of a book called 54 Devils by Cory Thomas Hutcheson... it’s a fairly short book and I haven’t gotten into it yet but I LOVE Cory’s work in general so I’m excited to see what the book has to offer... He’s an historian and folklorist (college professor and recently earned his doctorate in this area) and co-hosts the podcast New World Witchery... so yeah I’m excited to see what he has to say and dip my toes into this new system!

I'm just starting off with cartomancy, I don't have a Tarot deck yet, I'm glad Anna choose a different meaning for the diamonds, because to me I believe I chose Diamonds to represent air, clubs earth, spades fire, those just seemed right to me.

I'm similar but a bit swapped, diamonds are earth and clubs are air to me! 😁😆

@James Feeney, thank you for this video. I have a strong background in Tarot, however, over the years I began using Oracle Cards, too. Then, the High Priestess of the Magickal Grove of which I AM an Initiated Companion gave me my very first Lenormand Deck, and then something inside of me sparked and I began learning Lenormand, as well as offering professional Lenormand Readings. Lately, I have been offering Tarot Readings with Lenormand Cards, but I digress. I began learning Playing Card Divination, sometime last year, in 2022. I was a bit overwhelmed as to which book to read first, and it was Lisa Young-Sutton of the @LisaLovesLenormand KZbin Channel who recommended "Fortune-Telling by Playing Cards: A New Guide to the Ancient Art of Cartomancy," by Nerys Dee, that I began reading first. When I got to the section about the Nine of Hearts, I was quite surprised to see that it is the "Heart's Desire Card," which made me think of the Nine of Cups being the "Card of Wish Fulfillment." So, I have decided that if I get stuck I shall look at the suit from a Tarot lens. I still remember seeing a table of correspondences from "Tarot for Your Self," by THE Mary K. Greer, and one of the listings was the playing card suits and their Minor Arcana counterparts. Regarding Ana Cortez's playing card deck, before I was even interested in learning playing cards for Divination, I was immensely drawn to her deck; now that I know she has a more Alchemical Deck, I shall look for that one, too. Also, I AM long overdue to buy her book. The Jonathan Dee book is new to me, so I look forward to buying that one. Also, I AM currently reading the Stephen Ball book. Please know I received a great deal of value from this video, and happily gave it a Like and Shared it, too.

Hey James! I just found your channel today and I love your content! I'm really looking forward to watching many of your videos with my morning coffee. Especially videos like this touching on additional sources for readings other than just oracle decks. I've been learning tarot over the last year and I'm super interested in some of the books you've suggested! Have a great weekend.

I enjoyed this. I mostly read playing cards the same way as I read tarot pips. I find it to read very precisely. I have both of those book. I read the blue one last year.

Totally with you 😆 Oooh, what did you think? Was it a winner, or do you have other books you prefer? Thanks for watching friend ✨

@@jamesfeeney623 I think I used it mostly for numerology as I recall. I did enjoy it at the time. I find playing cards to be good for yes/no questions.. and advice readings 💙

Thanks for the tips and suggestions, I've been looking for some good sources I'll have to work my way through the books you suggested slowly :) it's interesting that everyone basically interprets the 'system' differently. I think that is what confused me at first, finding conflicting information where I was expecting to find This card=That, period

Thanks for the tips James! ❤😊 I've bought both the Stephen Ball book (I love his dice oracle book) and the Jonathan Dee book but haven't really delved in yet; I've been reading playing cards (with numerology/element combination approach) but I'm going to spend the latter half of this year learning some of the different techniques and systems beyond what I already do myself (I plan to take Truth in Story's playing cards class in the fall). I like to have usually 2 'study projects' per year -- early 2021 was geomancy. My great aunties (grandma's sisters) were playing card readers (which is how I ended up having a tarot deck, really) so I'm looking forward to Dee's book with that history there.

I love the idea of two study projects for the year! It sounds like you've got quite the practice going, I'd love to know what books you recommend as well 😆 Also, the Truth in Story's class sounds amazing, you'll have to let me know what you think of it. Many thanks for watching friend 💖💖💖

I'm not sure if you will ever read this but must try. Haven't done cartomancy before but yes to tarot (yrs ago). Bought a new deck. While watching a movie tonight shuffled the deck and then intentionally forced cards opposite direction as it felt I should. After 45 minutes looked at the deck and EVERY single card was in the upright position. This cannot be?! How? Wasn't paying attention, just wanted to get feel of cards. Has this happened to anyone else?

Can you add links for the books? I'll be honest I am lazy . I could rewatch and take notes.

I like Ana Cortez but... The book is a bit pricey in the U.K and I can't/won't fall for the 'need this book' approach. There are 'other schools' which the majority follow, until it's a free download...Foli is the way for me. J. U.K
