Just started FFXVI Complete on PC. Very slow start but picks up after the "Real" Ifrit fight. Combat is excellent agreed and these tips are the basics to fully appreciate and explore the system. Good video. Valkyrie Elysium is also a good example of similar Square Enix combat (albeit more weighty).

I will always stand on business chest out when saying 16 is top 5 best FF, sure the traditional rpg battle mechanics arent very strong and action is more fleshed out but if u dig in there is more then meets the eye like i just found out every enemy in the game has a hidden armor vaule. (Not the stagger bar u see on big guys) that scales to ur level and stats so u have to break that to combo them. This isnt sum third rate dmc clone 16 is its own thing and fun as hell i hope pc people will give it a fair shot and enjoy!

The biggest problem with FF16's combat system is that it doesn't tangibly reward you for fighting stylish. It does however reward you for cooldown dumping into a staggered enemy, like it rewards you for doing that A LOT. I think the game would've been more interesting instead if stagger only staggered enemies instead of provide a massive damage buff and instead you gain a gradual damage buff for stringing along long combos or being stylish. Like add a proper style meter that also boosts your damage with each rank.
@MoreLimitless_
@MoreLimitless_ 3 ай бұрын
The game does have a style grading system, however its locked to arcade mode. That is definitely a miss, but I honestly as I said in the video I find this games combat that much more fun when you are performing combos and playing it as it was designed. It's a game that heavily showcases player expression and you can literally play how you want. That said, if you find not performing combos your thing, that is totally fine. This is simply a video for those that want to become more stylish with the combo potential in this game and explore the combat deeper.

I got the Berserker Ring later in the game. Although it's a very useful accessory since you can perform limit break attacks after a precision dodge, I don't rarely use it because I can do is limit break mid air + jump cancel for a fast paced action gameplay like the Devil May Cry Games, and I had alot of DMC experience.
@MoreLimitless_

I used to not like using the Berserk Ring until I realized you could jump cancel out of the dodge animation if you're close enough to an enemy. And the amount of animations you can cancel out of with enemy step in general is honestly pretty insane.

As a Tekken player of 20 years and a big fan of hacking and slashing on Warhammer 40K Darktide, sometimes I just want a fun combat system that is easy to pick up and understand without being too complex. FFXVI has a great balance of this. I'm sure the devs never intended combat to be the focus of the game, the story is the focus as evidenced by all the cinematics, so this simple combat system is great to me. I've been playing FF since Mystic Quest. Yes, I'm old. I didn't like FF13 and I don't care about FF15, I don't even care about FF7 remake because I already played FF7 years ago. Only FF16 made me want to come back.
@MoreLimitless_
@MoreLimitless_ 3 ай бұрын
@@RektemRectums Definitely not too complex, but it’s deep enough that people can play at a high level. XVI was in many ways a direct response to the backlash of FFXV. Aspects like Story & gameplay were the two things in FFXV that were pretty lack luster, at least imo. And so FFXVI pretty much went hard in those two areas of development and it shows. That is why they got the designer of one of the most beloved character action games in recent years, and I think it really payed off.

Just when do you use limit break in your combo and when you i air step ?
@MoreLimitless_
@MoreLimitless_ 27 күн бұрын
@@theflashgordon193 Usually I like to use limit break in the air when you’re right next to an enemy or boss so that you can enemy step cancel out of the LB animation and smoothly transition to your next combos. It takes practice, but once you get it down it’s really efficient to implement into your combos. Also, whenever I use limit break I only use it in short bursts instead of using all of it at once. Usually I use it for a short burst of damage and then I turn it off.
@eltigreduarte8977
@eltigreduarte8977 3 ай бұрын
I think people really go out of their way undersell the rpg aspect of this game. Even in base game you had meaningful gear changes like the Berserker Ring and Swiftshot ring. One of which gave you LB normals which are incredibly good for parries, and the other which massively boosted your combat speed by basically letting you use charged magic at will. Post DLC gear is even better and the loadout of fully ranged Eikons and Gear I’m using lets me beat the games hardest content without swinging Clive’s sword even once. I also find it weird how people act as if they were blindsided by the game not being a strategy RPG, at no point were the Devs or Trailers deceptive, you knew exactly what it was you were getting
@MoreLimitless_
@MoreLimitless_ 3 ай бұрын
@@eltigreduarte8977 The accessories in this game can do a lot for Eikons and the DLC's improve on them by a large margin for sure. But yeah, they did market it as the first “true action RPG” in the series. And even though it isn’t deep in those RPG mechanics, that statement still holds true.

From playing the game for a few hours I still dont see a reason to use magic burst, my auto attack does like over 100 damage and the magic attack does like 70 dmg. Feels like a dps lost just doing it. Only reason I can see is that you stagger faster compared to straight auto attacking
@MoreLimitless_
@MoreLimitless_ 3 ай бұрын
@@sgtkwan It adds up both will dmg and regular dmg. Regular attacks only do dmg to health but getting in the habit of Magic Bursting is good because the dmg adds up in comparison to regular attacks. It’s also good to magic burst to weave in charged magic seamlessly, and get precision sics & ravages with Torgal. It’s best to get in the habit of doing so especially if you want to play at a high level in arcade mode where scores matter.

@@Giggles_iJestThere is a parry in FFXVI, but they work like they do in DMC where you time your attack with the enemies, which slows time down allowing for a small pocket of high dmg. But overall I think they’re both pretty satisfying parry systems, but FFXVI's is harder to master because of enemy hit boxes.

Problem is the game is far too easy, even on FF Mode, to justify spending hours in the Training Room trying to do better. People can do it if they WANT to, but there's absolutely no NEED to. But to me that's a plus as I prefer slower and more methodical approaches to action combat (Monster Hunter, Dark Souls), so I'm glad that this game doesn't force me into spamming 16 buttons a second just to feel like I'm doing well. I wouldn't touch this game if I HAD to play like that.

the game doesnt motivate you or incentive you to play like this, so most people wont ever do combos like this. DMC Bayonetta Old GOW and NG had a similar problem but those games have 5 more difficulties and in some games COugh Ninja gaiden cough The game incentives you to be cheap as possible (Spamming ultimate techniques all the time in NG 2 was so boring but was the best way to rack damage and to survive) is a problem that no one has fixed. In cases of Devil may cry Playing on Dante must die the game incentives you to play way better but never as insane as those combo videos that people do and even then the controls arent very intuitive and require a lot of practice and execution Sure 16 doesn't require nowhere near as much execution as dmc but since nothing stands in your way even in FF mode then why bother? Apparently the DLC does but that too little too late, why couldn't the game just let you go WILD from the get go? Another issue is that the game is just a sloth, is boring, the story is bad, the characters are bad, the main antagonist again comes out of nowhere and is really lame, there is no RPG mechanics, no action game mechanics, you only get ultima weapon in Final fantasy mode and by them there is nothing to use the weapon with unless DLC, is just bad. Meanwhile Atlus and Larian keeping Turn base RPG alive or as for action games well yeah I turn on DMC 5 from time to time since I never fully master it or even got close to it.

@@raulrojas9253 I personally got into the combat more as soon as I started to experiment and play around which is what the combat is built for. Sure, the game doesn’t force you to do combos, and a problem with that is of course difficulty. As someone who’s been playing this game since launch, Ultimaniac mode is where the combat truly shines which is where I think modders can help mitigate this problem by adding it in on a regular play through with arcade mode scoring. Otherwise, anyone who says this game is simply a mash square game is being extremely disingenuous to what the combat actually offers here. But, again, the lack of difficulty holds it back. That said, if you felt had problems with the combat, that is completely fine. This video is simply for those who want to combo and play at a higher level so that they can eventually get into arcade mode and play Ultimaniac and Kairos Gate.

It motivates you in the same way most games with higher skill ceilings but low skill floors motivate you, by looking cool as hell. You have a game like Doom 2016, where the game is at its best when you are flying around and switching weapons in combos and crap, but you can just go up to everyone and super shotgun them and beat the whole game like that on nightmare so who cares? Except for the people who want to look cool. But the people who played in that boring way complained about the gameplay being boring. So Doom Eternal balanced the game to raise the skill floor, so even on the easiest difficulty you had to enter that "cool zone" at least a tiny bit, and then people complained about that, cause they didn't want to play the way the game wants to be played, they wanted to play their boring ass way that they complained about in the previous game. There are games like Doom Eternal and Sekiro that will straight up kill you if you try to play in a cheesy or boring way (Sekiro has a deceptively generous parry window, but if you spam parry it becomes very small.) or otherwise strongly incentivize a specific playstyle, but it always gets complaints. There are too many people who will buy a game in a genre they don't even like because the game has decent marketing, then proceed to ignore every hint, tutorial, game design nudge, and otherwise the game in giving them, actively fighting against what the game's design is guiding them towards around every corner, not have a good time because of that, and then complain about it on the internet and blame the game for their own stubbornness. As games get more and more expensive it simply becomes less and less likely a game can afford to ignore this very "special" customer base so challenge modes and unlockable hard modes are what normal people are stuck with.
