The first thing I discovered when I began cruising is that you can almost always find quiet space on cruise ships even on the bigger ships

I’m 50 and my husband is 59, but our 4 kids ranging from 19 to 25, also love cruising. We see all ages on cruises from babies to the elderly and all in between! Before our first cruise, I can remember my husband being worried about feeling “trapped in the middle of the ocean” and he’s the one who probably loves cruising the most out of all of us.

I love it, not really near the dead rattle! I prefer older crowd with few unsupervised children. We love the excursions and take advantage of them. I also like the smaller ships. This is all just personnel preference and their are lots of ships to choose from to make people happy. In all, I agree with you and your video! As long as I get bacon in the morning, I'm a happy boy

And I'd agree. We started out with Holland America and loved their demographics. We took a couple Carnival cruises and quickly realized we were on the wrong cruise line. I don't mind the supervised children. But it seems so many are caffeine and sugar overloaded with no one watching them.

We've cruised on all sizes of ships and really the experience is the same. This is our time as a couple to be together, and it doesn't matter whether the ship has 500 people or 5000, we still have a good time and never feel crowded out. It was only on a Galapagos cruise with 20 passengers that we felt we had to be more 'sociable' than is natural for us.

Thanks, Gary. Good video. We went on the Oasis of the Sea in 2018. My husband wasn't sure he was going to like a ship that big. By day 2, he was loving it. Yes, it is big and did have a lot of passengers but there were so many venues and quiet spots on the ship that we never felt trapped or overwhelmed.

Hi Gary, I grew up in Miami and worked as a travel agent (85-90) and for RCI (90-92) for a couple of years. The quote "Cruises are for newly weds, and the nearly dead" is an old trope. I used to hear it all the time, when there were many classic cruise ships still in circulation. I attempted to change that tune, one customer at a time. Before they began to build ships for the "in between crowds." People only hear what they want to hear and we call that the special gift of selective hearing.
@Alphacentauri819 Жыл бұрын
From a neuroscience perspective...there are negativity biases, confirmation biases, that are "filters" & yes, they do seem like selective hearing, or hearing what one "wants to hear"...but when you dig deeper to subconscious, and the deeper "why", it isn't always that simple. Amygdala, hippocampus, play a role...and at the end of the day, what drives people is a desire for safety and certainty. What those 2 things entail very greatly person to person, depending on many variables. Many, many behaviors, (many unconscious) are strategies to feel safe and certain. Remember that when others are annoying...applies to all of us.

Just got off a 10-day cruise on celebrity silhouette. It was awesome. So much to do on board. Didn't do any excursions either. While others did, and had a great time, we loved having the ship nearly to ourselves. Also, half booked on this one. So under 1000 passengers. The news saying people are trapped on there and "stranded" are lies. Ports, being their own country, have reserved their right to close to ships that have some cases on board. For our cruise we had less than 1% positive cases and no severe symptoms. There are more cases in my neighborhood than the cruise ship.

Very good summary. With regards to crime on ships, we're not talking about being randomly assaulted or robbed when you are walking on a corridor between your cabin and the Lido deck. Most of the crimes are associated with people who already know each other or just met, say at one of the bars, and the crime occurs inside the cabin of one of the people who met each other. This is far different than crimes that occur in a city.

Reporting from CLIA indicates that the average age of Canadian ocean cruisers in 2017 was 51, but passengers on Caribbean routes are younger. While longer itineraries, such as a trans-Atlantic or exploration cruise, tend to attract older travellers, at 46, the average age of passengers in the Caribbean is the youngest.

The only Adults Only Cruise I have recently seen is now “ Virgin Cruises” a cruise line owned by Richard Branson, I do it could more expensive than “Princess Cruises”, the line my wife and I use which we enjoy a lot. Cunard is where, Yes you do dress for dinner every night or evening, good if you like doing that, but I am very casual most of the time when I dine for my meals. Most people who fall off ships is due to their own carelessness. If you one of those safes in your staterooms please make good use and keep your money, wallets, passport, excursion tickets, and any other vital information on paper you need for your cruise. Just pick a four number digit combination that you know and can remember to use.

I wouldn't consider a cruise ship with water slides, go carts and surf simulators to be "relaxed" cruising. In the same way a trip to Disney World is not a relaxing vacation. It is loud, crowded and high energy. Even when I was cruising in my mid-30s, I didn't want to take a cruise with a lot of commotion and screaming kids. I want a calm, tranquil, relaxing experience. I prefer the "older" demographic lines specifically for the calm. No interest in a loud, boisterous environment.

I presume that it depends on the cruise route/destination.

It's nice that there are ships that are sort of geared towards different age demographics. I specifically booked a cruise that let my kids sail for free and had kids clubs for all their age groups. That is what I need in a cruise vacation! And for folks who don't want to be around noisy kids or partying 20-somethings, there are cruise ships that are gear towards that demographic as well.

I've had a moment of boredom on a cruise, but it was just because I wasn't enjoying the particular stage show I was watching right then. Other than that, if you're sitting around bored, its probably because its very hard to entertain you. And like you said, you're not on the ship long enough. I've never had more than 2 and a half consecutive sea days and that was just one way to Bermuda. Left NYC at 4 pm on a sunday and disembarked at the Royal Dockyard by 8 am on Tuesday. Ship arrived while I was still asleep.

4000 passengers is nothing! It's like saying to a New Yorker, "How can you live in a City with 8M people?" There are only a few times during the day when many of those people are out and about! We are really wanting an Ireland cruise and watched a video of yours that had mentioned even covering getting picked up from home and dropped off where we need to go and then after getting back home to our door through a travel agent. I was hoping that you might have some suggestions for a good travel agent that can accommodate that kind of vacation just to make the whole experience without worrying about not bringing enough money to do at least the basics for older new comers like us that may make inexperienced financial mistakes. It was like being in a large hotel with a food court and a few shops. This was BEFORE covid. Someone tested positive for something, and suddenly all the restaurants were no longer self serve. And every time we turned around, a crew member was standing behind us with hand sanitizer. All I could think was, if it's that bad, LET ME OFF!. I'll never go on an ocean cruise again.

I know I put it elsewhere but might as well reiterate here. Because I can XD People who think cruise lines are bad for the ocean because they dump sewage into the ocean clearly have no idea what they're talking about. For one, they obviously don't realize that sea life does, in fact, release their own waste. They are not super creatures that can use 100% of the material they consume and release no waste. And there are a LOT more of them releasing their organic waste into the ocean than humans. Second, the amount of sewage dumped is a statistical non factor when compared to the size of the ocean. 150k gallons for a 3,000 person cruise of one week? That's a drop within a drop times a thousand compared to the ocean. Even if there was 1,000 of those cruises happening each week (kinda hard to do when there's not that many 3,000 person cruise ships in the world), every week, for an entire year, it would still only add up to 7,800,000,000 gallons of sewage a year (which is roughly the equivalent of if every person in the entire world released a single gallon of waste at the same time). Sounds like a lot, right? Well, there is 352 quintillion gallons of water in the ocean (352,000,000,000,000,000,000). 7.8 billion is only 0.0000000022159% of the world's oceans water content. Even if this was to go on for 100 years (thus 7.8 billion would become 780 billion), the percentage just has two zeros shaved off. It would take literally thousands and thousands of years worth of this cruise insanity to even break double digits in terms of how much of the ocean is suddenly sewage and by that point, ocean life will have adapted to deal with it. Point is, no, cruise ships dumping their waste into the ocean doesn't harm anything. Their diesel engines are doing more harm than the sewage. Really, people aren't concerned about the sewage affecting the ocean. What they're concerned about is their private section of beach having sewage in the water. Which is taken care of by the 12 mile rule.
@hed24102 жыл бұрын
You sound rather naive. There are 27 ++million - I said million- people who cruise annually. They toilet themselves 2-3 times A DAY FOR 3 TO 10 DAYS, and shower at least once, releasing their sweat, cosmetics, chemical toiletries and sunblock into the ocean- not into a water treatment plant. So we're looking at 100 Million DUMPS a year, each one w a volume and weght of 2-4 pounds. These Einsteins also vomit and flush their other wastes into the ocean. No comparison to the natural sea ecology.
