Rachel , don’t doubt yourself. If you call them friends and vice versa it’s normal to expect proper communication. If you value those friendships i would be honest to them and express how you felt last weekend. So it would not happen again. I felt alone and left out also when my friends got boyfriends years ago so i feel you on that. I am a couple years older than you and i love to watch your videos , it remind me of when i was younger and getting ready to go out with my friends and go to a club. Completely agree with you & you definitely have the right to feel let down by your friends if they’re not communicating with you and prioritising your feelings. It’s quite a shame, understandably people have their own lives and issues, but I could never imagine making plans with my friends and then flaking on them without any communication, it’s like being stood up by a date. Whatever the case, please don’t feel like you’re overreacting, you have the right to feel how you feel. And although it might not be a priority to communicate for others, it obviously is important to you so you shouldn’t have to lower your friendship standards. Definitely speak to them about it if it’s a reoccurring theme x

I feel the same way about friends, I do think communication is important but a lot of the time some “friends” don’t think it’s necessary. I’ve recently let a few friends go because their communication just sucked. They never had the courtesy to communicate so I just let it go. It’s ok to expect communication from people who are your “friends”

No you were spot on with your intuition that people are different with communication. Sometimes I go through really bad anxiety or depression from one day to the next & it takes so much for me to pull out of myself the communication to cancel things. I want badly to just avoid the world. So i wouldn’t take it personally if I were you, & im so glad your getting the fun time out you needed after feeling down about the plans falling through!

omg rach i FEEL YOU! i had 3 plans with friends this week and they all cancelled (one of them cancelled 20 minutes before i left the house i had my makeup done and everything) and none of them rescheduled... my breaking point was yesterday when i saw a couple of my friends hanging out together and after 30 minutes they INVITED ME??? i felt like an after thought i obviously said no. like we're 27 we're GROWN! maybe i should get new friends with better communication skills 🤔

I think some people sadly lack the respect that comes with communication, it's not always malicious, sometimes people are too wrapped up in their own lives to think about others but I am the same as you, i'm so big on being honest with friends and staying true to plans but my friends are always cancelling on me or outright pretending they did not see my message about hanging out or i get hit with the "ill let you know" and they never ever do. Its so disheartening because it makes you question yourself and if you're just not a person whos company people enjoy and thats an awful way to feel about yourself. I do genuinely think in most cases its truly nothing personal, especially the people in relationships, they just forget they have friends outside of their relationship because they're caught up in their little love bubble, it still hurts because sometimes it can feel like you're always the one who makes more effort to keep a friendship going, you're definitely not alone with this one!

Let me say this! I’m older, married and have children. It’s not wrong to ask for friends to communicate with you. Unfortunately there are so many flaky people around. When your at your lowest or most stressed the ones who lift you up are your true friends. There are friends and then there are acquaintances. I still want to be alone even more so now I’ve settled down and have family. Appreciate the time you can put yourself first, go out with friends when you choose and lie in etc, because one day it will be hard to get a second to yourself. If you decide to have kids eventually that is. People will always try and make you second guess yourself. Quality time over quantity and communication is defo key in any relationship ❤

Sometimes people close themselves off and shut down. I agree communication is key, and some people are amazing at it, but others are not so good, and I personally know that when my mental health isn't good I completely switch off. I can consciously be thinking to text/call people back or update them but I can't bring myself to do it whether its because I feel so awful or because I'm so overwhelmed. And trust me I will feel guilty, but that will just add to my already horrendous mental health. And just because some people look/act happy doesn't mean they are. I will then make excuses as to why I didn't get back to people and I'm sure they just think I'm lazy or unreliable and they have no idea how I truly feel

I think communication is important but it’s also just a moment for you and your friends who have new people in their life to have the chance to re evaluate your priorities. I know that when I was single I never really had friendships at the top of my priority list (never really have) but because I was single I did naturally have more time to spend with mates. But when I found my person, I knew that my priories were with building my new life with this person, which meant that I didn’t have the time for friends as much anymore. I lost a bestfriend due to them not being able to handle that my life had changed and with it my priorities, and I completely understood that she had different wants/expectations from our friendship that I didn’t share. It’s a natural part of having connections and any type of relationship with someone and it sucks, but we’re all different people with different wants, needs and desires and sometimes peoples priorities change. You’ll find your like minded people rach ❤

I know exactly where you’re coming from with the whole people not communicating and letting you know they can’t commit to plans anymore, as a communicator (girl we’re libras it’s what we do, birthday twins also) it’s so frustrating because you yourself wouldn’t simply just not contact that person whatsoever, it takes 2 minutes to write a sentence and let that person know!! You know they’re gonna be on their phones anyway and the fact they choose not to let you know is giving disrespect, because it literally stops you from being able to do something else, it’s common decency really, you’re in your right to feel disappointed 🙄 and you said in your podcast “is it worth cutting off friendships for I don’t know” and I’m here like yes 😂 because I’ve been through it so many times and I’d rather not allow people to let me down continuously, even when I’ve said to them please just let me know, I won’t be mad it just frees up my time etc, they still did it because it’s just who they are, I’d rather have no plans than have plans that are constantly flopped on without warning 🤷🏼‍♀️
