Tipu Sultan Almost Died in this Attack | 3rd Anglo Mysore War | Episode 2

this is one of the most unknown incident from life of tipu sultan, even though many people tried to write this incidents in their books but they were not accurate but mir hussain ali kirmani has given perfect detail about this incident in his book history of reign of tipu sultan.
On 28 December 1789 Tipu sultan attacked the lines and gained entry by a small 20-member team, but Vaikom Padmanabha Pillai of Travancore army and had to retreat. Later in April he came back with reinforcements and this time was able to break into the territory after making the way through the Nedumkotta. He destroyed the wall at Konoor kotaa or kottamuri and advanced further.
He filled trenches for a few kilometers to enable his army to move forward. He finally reached the Periyar river banks at Aluva and camped there. However, by this time a small group led by Vaikom Padmanabha Pillai and Kunjai Kutty Pillai went upstream and managed to break the walls of a dam at Bhoothathankettu causing heavy flash floods downstream Periyar river. All the ammunition and gunpowder of Tipu's army got wet and became inactive. He was thus forced to return.

Mysore tiger🐯 was lucky to save his life as he fled from the scene. Valiant and ferocious battle from the Travancore side kept him on the backfoot. Tactics of Raja kesavadas (Diwan of T'core) and sheer strength of 20 daredevils led by Vaikkom Padmanabha pillai (Lion of T'core) saved the country of T'core. Remember that was not the time of Indian union and each princely state has its own sovereignty. That time history was not like this and Tipu was just an alien enemy who was intended to conquer the southern state.

Aftermath of the war: The Nairs of Travancore recovered the sword, the pallanquin, the dagger, the ring and many other personal effects of Tipu from the ditches of the Nedumkotta and presented them to the Maharajah of Travancore. Some of them were sent to the Nawab of Arcot (one of Tipu's arch rivals) on his request. The Mysorean army suffered 2,000 deaths and many thousands were injured. Several high-ranking Mysorean officers were taken prisoner, including 5 Europeans and one Maratha. Mysore tiger was escaping in one leg because his right leg was slashed by vikom padmanabha pillai
