For anyone who has a set of Patagonia’s don’t give up on em. Stock… they leave a lot to be desired. But I decided to cut the alternating outside lugs (looks similar to the klr’s or interco tsl sx) vented and tossed in hair buns for inserts and it’s totally changed there performance. Loving this tire test series!

Foams aka support, is the MOST IMPORTANT part of rc tire grip. NO EXCEPTION VENTING IS NOT A CHOICE IT IS A MUST

Facts. Unvented crawler tires use air pressure for support more than their foam… no good

I had the Patagonia's when they first came out. Ran them a handful of times and was disappointed after every attempt. RC4wd tires look great but they suck unless you break them in for 5 years before use in my opinion and experience.

That's really surprising how good the KLR is on rock, it doesn't look to have much contact area due to the enormous aggressive lugs. I just got a used truck with them fitted and it they were excellent on the forest terrain I usually trail on. I also have the Pats and they do ok, but I find RC4WD compounds soft but not that sticky, more spongey?

found klr/m weak as an all around tire (had gold and red compound), wet and dry... interested to see how these tires perform. from my test... the rock beast XL sucks, had 3 of them I think the RC4WD compounds are too soft, this is why it looses grip. I owned a rc4wd class 1 tire and it also looses traction. try and the Proline SuperSwampers XL against the KLR/M and Rock beast xl. btw, i held on to these 3 tires for a long time because they looked so scale... they are rcool looking tires

i feel like all the tires should be tested on the same exact obstacles. no cut n shuts. using the same insert sized as best as can with given tire. no?

it totally depends on which tire. for the hyrax i swear i g8 is better since it doesnt allow the tiny sipes to just fold over and over no bite. on the other hand with the tsl super swampers i swear a predator compound is better because its a more rigid tire. one isnt always going to perform better than the other

@@dirtrider88 Great point. I have the Hyrax in predator and they’re definitely not my favorite tire. However the BFG KN3’s in predator are a great performer for me.

I’m aware of that. The KLR looks like a exaggerated tread RC only tire but they exist for full size vehicles

Squid inserts are not always the best insert option. 2 stage foams NOT PROLINE. CRAWLER INNOVATION foams can be infinitely tuned to your rig in ways a 3d print can never acheive

​​@@westdesertwheeler yea the Patagonia doesn't work well on the east coast in 1/1 for us, but they do work out west. KLR/M work best for me on 1/10 east coast. What foams/liners you choose is so specific to each build that's hard to say what's best for anyone else. I can say the klr m did work better for me with a very soft liner in them...they need to be borderline too soft and they really hook.
