Glue Tread for the win!😃. I have that in my kit, but never used it. Glad to see it 💪works

Yea but you should never drive on the highway with a side wall repair because there is no such thing as a side wall being repaired. It will fail..
@prodriquez Жыл бұрын
+1 for Glue Treads if you have enough glue surface to work with. For this repair, the tear went in at an angle and I only had a small pinhole, roughly 1” forward of the surface tear, that made it all the way through the 3/4” sidewall… so there was plenty of glue surface to hold everything together. Obviously a normal tire would not have as much sidewall as a 40” MT… and each repair will be different so you definitely need to use some common sense before getting on a public street or highway. In our case, there was absolutely no danger that the tire would blow apart on our drive home so we decided to change the tire when we got home.

@@prodriquez this is literally on the glue tread site, "GlueTread repairs are meant be a temporary fix until you can get your tire to a professional", and technically I'm a professional since I literally went through a course to be able to become a TIA certified tire tech. You're literally assuming this will hold because it has for others, and no where on their site does it say its OK to drive on the street with said repair.

I really enjoy your videos, makes me want to move to colorado, except for your winters haha, but I am glad ive been able to visit colorado several times. i want to bring my Jeep out and do the Trails.

Driving from state to state and having 5:13 gears I think you said, does your jeep still downshift into 5th or 6th gear? I put 4:88s on mine and 315s and there are hills where mine still downshift to 5th gear at 70-75 mph and I hate it. Sorry I don't have social media and the forums are all over the place.

We went over Mosquito Pass in late August too. We thought it had gotten more difficult this year versus the previous two years. It just seemed like more erosion has taken place in some areas. What did you think?
@TrailTraveler Жыл бұрын
We were actually discussing that areas seemed worse than before

@@TrailTraveler Have you noticed that on other trails around CO this year?
@TrailTraveler Жыл бұрын
@@beaunugget4277 We had a LOT of water this summer which caused a lot of erosion, exposing rocks, causing ruts, etc. It certainly did a number on many trails

Well, the sidewall IS the weak spot on any tire and you kiss a sharp rock and its goodbye tire. It's happened on my Nitto Trail Grapplers as well.

That's an awesome trail but you should never drive on a damaged sidewall... They really should have put the spare on before hitting the highway, they put themselves and others lives at risk driving on a damaged tire. Sidewall flex's and you never know when that repair will give out...
@prodriquez Жыл бұрын
In general, you are absolutely correct. In our case, the damage was extremely minor, there was a ton of glue surface, the repair did not add any measurable weight/imbalance to the tire, and the 40” Cooper STT Pro held the same PSI until I replaced it the following morning…. And that’s after hitting some big rocks at some significant speeds.
@dirttales Жыл бұрын
You've never worked on tires I take it.. Sidewall flexes and any repair that is done can give out at any moment. I get driving on the the damaged tire to get to a better spot, but regardless you should have put your spare on before hitting the highway... @@prodriquez

@@prodriquez I used to work on tires for a living... Am certified tire technician. I've seen what sidewall failures can do at high speeds... It isn't worth risking yours or anyone elses life, this has nothing to do with law, its about living another day ffs.

@@prodriquez You can sit back and laugh all you want and make silly little keyboard warrior comments but anyone who drives on the highway with side wall damage is just plain dumb and the first comment on this thread proves that.
