@@PlatinumOffRoad I appreciate you taking the time to record and post very educational videos. Keep up the good work! I’m curious which state you are in? I’m Canadian living in Japan now, but plan to return to northern BC Canada 🇨🇦 later in 2023. I have a 1988 Toyota Hilux double cab with a 2.8L diesel. I will gradually make some modifications over time. Will watch your channel for further information!

I didn’t realize tire rubber has a lifetime regardless of mileage. I never thought about manufacturing date. Very good to know.

It's amazing what a fresh set of tires can do for many vehicles. Just because there's tread depth left, doesn't always mean that the tires are still performing with safety and comfort.

Hi mate, I have changed my vehicle Isuzu d max 2013 tyre and rims (215 55 r15 to 255 60 r18) since then rear brake stated making noise whenever stop the car. Brake pads are checked and are in condition, unable to understand what cause the issue? This vehicle has shoe drum brake on the rear? Any advice
@PlatinumOffRoad2 жыл бұрын
Are you running a non-hub centric wheel on a hub that needs to have hub-centric wheels? And also check for correct lug nuts. Outside of that, the whole wheel and tire change shouldnt affect the brakes, unless the wheel diameter is too small for that brake setup.
@newbtubetecher2 жыл бұрын
What about tire rim width vs actual rim width. Can you run a 15.6 rim width tire on a 9 in width rim.

Hello can I use 265/75/16 on 225/75/16 please help the car is 2010 Chrysler town and country thank you
@PlatinumOffRoad4 жыл бұрын
The 265 tire will be 40 mm wider and roughly 30 mm taller overall. Each tire will fit the wheel, but will it fit the vehicle's wheel well opening and not give you rubbing while turning... that's something I cannot tell you. You can go to the vehicle and max out the steering and see that you can clear the increase of deminsions, each direction and all around.

OK,, IS the 37 really 36 because of the weight of the truck pushing down on IT,,,?????
@PlatinumOffRoad4 жыл бұрын
No. Its the manufacturing. If you measure a 37" tire before mounting it, they all measure right at 37". Stretch them onto a tire and inflate them and they will reduce down to the mid 36" range. You should measure a tire diameter, when the tire is under vehicle weight, horizontally. This is a huge mistake when folks are trying to measure their tires during a speedometer recalibration or regear - the inaccurate entry after a regear will send an automatic transmission vehicle into limp mode on most newer vehicles
@lecroyantengage87245 ай бұрын
HI, what the letter D means?
@PlatinumOffRoad5 ай бұрын
That's the Load Range - it's the ply count. How many layers of belting the actual tire will be produced with, during construction. 6 ply = C 8 ply = D 10 ply = E

Tires are good for 5-10 years. 3-5 maybe if they're in the sun and heat all the time.

Won't take that to the bank. We'll just let everyone see for themselves. Fresh rubber vs 6 yr old rubber. Swap one set for the other, then go back. Proof is in the pudding. Dry rot as well. As the tire ages and sees nominal driving, element will break the rubber compound down and then the cracks (commonly called dry-rot) is a result of non-flexible rubber being shrunk and stretched with each rotation (as the tire flexes with road contact). In the end, there is a huge tapering of rubber quality at the 3-4yr margin. To store a tire away is not comparing apples to apples. This video is referring to tires that get used as a tire was intended... driven. I have a set of KM2s reaching year 4. They're driven maybe 8k miles a year, and garage kept. Just began to clap on the road, need frequent rotations, and starting to crack.

@@PlatinumOffRoad well I'm a used tire shop manager and I can tell you most tires are fine long after 3-4 years. I sell 10 year old tires all day every day and they go on to last folks years after.

@@jonnywatts2970 HAHAHAHA WOW!!! Literally laughed out loud when I read that. Sorry man. I'll just bow out of this match Lol. Ive been in the undustry for over 19 years and seen all trends of tire useage. Spent time in my esrly years at a large national tire chain as a manager and was had to endure many trainings on the science behind a tire. The UTQG, speed ratings, how plys and the angle of their belting affects everything, and so much more. You obviously live life on the edge with your sales and customers. Thats fine. Tell them what you want, but a rubber compound that has began to plasticize and dry rot is what it is and can't be denied. Farewell!!

@@jonnywatts2970 sounds good man. The information I give will only be based on nearing 20 years of firsthand experience and then some sort of formal baseline. Being a certified automotive instructor I also have to understand the science to the industry. If what you sell to others works for you then roll with it. There's thousands of used tire shops out there serving their clientelle well and it keeps the world in motion. Enjoy!
