4:44 That's not everything thats wrong with walls and flying units. If you have a flying unit above a section of the wall when it gets destroyed -- the unit will instantly die. I once lost a dragon like that by destroing a part of the wall he was hovering over with my own artillery.

Best method for breath attacks are against single entities. Net then, fly the dragon directly over them and breath attack straight down. Instantly routs most lords.

Those Unknown Skaven Clans and Chaos Hordes that spawn in Vortex campaigns have given me most of my favorite siege defense battles because they'll actually attack a fully garrisoned settlement not just siege it forever.

I was once in a similar situation 2 years ago, i was playing last defenders and had to defend against 4 stacks with a shitty dino stack ,alongside with a huge ,but not so strong garrison. I adopted the opposite strategy , controlled a large army, as back then i didn't know you could do that trick. It took my a couple of tries but i managed to win it , using that strategy you were describing - the garrison held the walls and the dinos ate the ratmen, it was a total massacre, my laptop was potato back then and i played on lowest settings, each of my dinos got like 200 kills on small unit scales, i miss such glorious carnages.

It WAS a close victory, it takes into account more than just kills it also considers magic usage and HP damage, if there was another stack or two he would've ran out of magic and not been able to heal and could've lost therefore close victory.

I’ve been in this same situation with Darkelves. But instead of a spam I had a pretty chunky army. This was the same battle that my fire sorceress got 2500+ kills. Doom corridor with some odd thousand rats at a time. It was a 40 minute long game

I had a similar one as well, but I was lizmen and had Lord Kroak. So many kills on him the end battle loading screen put in "..." because it couldn't display all the kills

I had something similar as well when Chaos sent 4 stacks against Naggarond. In the beginning I had only the city garrisson and didn't know about fighting with a small army effected the AI. That one death hag I had go sooooo many kills it was rediculous.

When the Skaven attacked they caught me completely off guard it was my first playthrough. I had to raise an army in Lothern while the other 7 armies that I could spare from my invasions of the other three main landmasses raced home. But my garrisons did so much damage that attacking just five of my settlements cost them damn near everything. By the time my massive armies arrived all that was left was to clean up the remnants of my pyrrhic defense. (Wiping out the rags of their massive army and resettling Averlorn before Alarielle could race back home to protest.) I imagine the council was pretty embarrassed they caught me off guard, had Ulthuan all to themselves(I'd confederated all but Averlorn and had forced her to assist my mopping up of Naggaroth). Yet the various garrisons were just not having it and sold their lives dearly selling 1 for 4 as the sword slashes.

It's a micro issue. Using breath attacks perfectly with that many dragons is really difficult. Especially if you lose out on crucial timing and the bigger picture of the fight. Not to mention the amount of damage dragons take from missile fire while doing their breaths. Legend has addressed this in a few other SYDC vids. Not saying it wouldn't have been "better" to use more breath attacks, but Legend is still only human (if a very skilled one at that). And he chose the bigger picture over microing every dragon/breath perfectly. The "perfect" player could do both consistently, but you show me one such person^^.

I think in this situation this doomstack was better than the sisters one. Because sisters would probably end up running out of ammo, and you can't regenerate that unlike the dragons health.

Dragon spam is certainly more fun than sisters spam but more expensive and takes much longer to recruit. Well with high elves economy money isn’t really an issue

Believe it or not a lot of rats have the same names in this game. There is a lot of morlocke generals. Another example is Chief doomclaw of rictus clan-nest, quite a bit of plague priests have the same name.

I think a doomstack of dragons beats a stack of sisters of avelorn in auto resolve. they are tier 5 units and monsters. they are usually really strong in auto resolve

Does somebody knows if there is a game like total war but instead of controlling your army only in the battle,, you stay with it the whole time and have to maneuver it througt the terrain, for example, you are marching towards a city and you have to go across a forest, you don't know if there is an enemy army so you send your cavalry as scouts and just wait, or if you have to go across a mountain, etc

Dragon Breath is overrated because it´s only good for certain situations. Given those, it IS good, without them, too small of an area. I once attacked an Orc fortress and had several of the defense units clumped up in one spot, launching several DBs in it getting over 100 kills EVERY SINGLE TIME.

It is better but you don't play the siters doomstack defensive, you use lightningstrike and attack. I mean if you use it wrong then sure it's going to be bad.

Garrison building gives 6 of them at Tier 4, combined with main settlement garrison it is standard

If you fully upgrade the garrison building it gets more mixed, at Tier 4 it only adds 6 lothern sea guards

I don't get it, why didn't he control large armies, post the archers on the walls, leave out some units to defend the square and just keep all the enemy units blobbed up infront of the walls using the dragons while the archers on the walls and the towers widdle the enemy down....thats what I would've done.

Total War Warhammer is dumb and doesn't care about tactics. Ultimately all he cares about are the Tier 5 units which are the dragons. The rest may as well die because it's just not important. If he controlled large armies then the dragons would have to contend with a lot more "trash" and probably wouldn't fare as well pound for pound. Therefore it was better to control just the dragons and let the enemy come in waves so the absurd stats of the Tier 5 unit can just absolutely smash into each "manageable" clump of enemies in order to maximize the stat advantage. Missile units can help, but most of the time melee units are a hindrance in battles in Legendary difficulty because the AI gets massive hidden bonuses to all of their stats (which are unavailable to human players), so they just die in droves and can't stand their ground and their losses affect your other units, due to cascading morale effects and army loss penalty. So since all he was going to use the melee units for was stand in the town square to defeat the odd rat that slipped through and not fight alongside the dragons he must have thought disabling the option was more worth it than not.

I don’t understand spam stacks, doesn’t seem like it would be very fun playing that way, missing out on managing tactics of a diverse army , I haven’t played a legendary campaign yet but on hard and very hard it’s pretty easy to get to point to where you steamroll with a diverse army of experienced high tier troops. I’m just curious of people’s reasoning and opinions on it. I know this video isn’t on legendary but maybe it is sometimes necessary on a legendary campaign? I do plan on stepping up to legendary on my next campaign

Doomstacks can be the Occam's Razor solution to problems, simple and easy to use, even if not the most fun or efficient. Also known as Dominant Strategy. Also in Legendary with maxed Battle difficulty Melee Infantry are much worse due to the buffs the AI get, with Legendary removing any use they have except for being meatshields doomed to die. Can't forget things like no pause (and issue commands) function either, meaning the more micro you have, the easier to screw up it becomes.

Noah Cole Makes sense, too much diversity in the army definitely can be overwhelming or unmanageable in legendary/multiplayer battle without the ability to pause , I’ve started playing multiplayer recently so I’m learning how to play without the tactical pause and have definitely made more simple armies and I usually only take 2 or 3 spells. After watching legend play this battle I actually did think that it looked kind of fun using all those dragons
