Well, I have a nice hill next to my house, and there is railing in the way. There is about 3ft (1m) of space without the railing. And I have a sled and it always decides to send me right into the railing, even though my track doesn't have sharp turns, only slight turns. To prevent that, I purposely tip over and land in snow. Not ideal, but better than hitting your head on the railing.
