Now you gotta check out Halloween II (1981). It continues on the same night, right after this one. This is one of the greatest films of all time, it's in the congressional library's film registry board. It's a list of films deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" that are recommended for preservation by those holding the best elements for that film, be it motion picture studios, the Library of Congress and other archives, or filmmakers. Around 890 films on that list, out of millions made. Carpenter wrote Myers to be the actual boogeyman. He said he's a human, but he has a supernatural edge. He was only gonna do this one film, and the ending was supposed to scare people as it implies that you can't kill the boogeyman, with them showing all the places he's been in the movie, and his breathing getting heavier. It suggests that he can be everywhere, and nowhere. Another fun fact is that the movie cost $325,000, half of it went to the camera and lenses. The Loomis speech in the Myers house about how he has the darkest eyes, the devil's eyes was true. John Carpenter said his class like 10-12 years before the movie went to a field trip to a mental hospital in Kentucky. He said he met a boy around 11 or 12 who had black, cold yes with no emotion, or soul behind them. He said as soon as he looked the boy in his eyes he got goosebumps and it was maybe the most scared he has ever been, also just like Myers he never talked. The parents not reacting is called a seque. It's a term from stage plays, where people don't move for a shot to emphasis the situation.

Please watch Halloween H2O. It's really fun to watch and it even throws in a Scream reference like how Scream referenced Halloween so its a fun little circle moment as well. I think you'd love our main girl Laurie in that one a lot!

The idea of Michael being this big hulking guy is a trope that came around after Friday the 13th. it makes more sense that Michael would be more feline, and able to slip in and out of the shadows. It’s hard to go unnoticed when you’re a big hulking beast.

Lemme break this down for you: Halloween 2 came out three years later but is a continuation of the same night and has the same quality to it as the 1st and does develop the story a bit more. The proceeding sequels however are inferior and don’t add anything to it in my own opinion and are looked at as quite stale. Then in 1996 along comes a little slasher movie that completely revitalises the slasher genre you might have heard of. A couple of years later H20 was released and not only is it a good movie but it has scream-like vibes. A few years later they tried to build on the success of it and the craze of the nineties-early oughts slasher movies with Resurrection and failed miserably. From there the new timeline trilogy which basically eradicates all movies after the original. These are definitely worth watching too. ❤

This was Jamie Lee Curtis' first movie role. She's the daughter of Janet Leigh, who was known for the woman in the infamous shower scene from the movie, "Psycho". Friday the 13th is the one in the summer camp with Jason. John Carpenter described Michael Myers as a man with a supernatural edge. In terms of which movies you should cover in the Halloween franchise: H1, H18, H Kills, H Ends. 4 movie storyline that actually has a definitive end, so-to-speak lol.

Go with the new trilogy to follow after this one (2018, Kills, Ends). I feel like they’re a lot easier to get into without previous sequels or timelines clouding judgement, especially the last one lol. If you need a reference though; H1, H2, H4, H5, H6 are one continuity H1, H2, H20, Resurrection are another H1, 2018, Kills, Ends are the most recent Rob Zombie’s H1 and H2 are their own thing Halloween 3 is completely separate from the other films and is best watched as a stand-alone experience.

@@valek005 It may be, if that was even remotely close to what I actually said or suggested. I never said any one film was ruined by another; I said the overall story arc told across a quadrilogy was damaged (imo ruined) by its concluding chapter (Halloween Ends), which made some dreadful storytelling decisions regarding the quadrilogy's conclusion. Maybe try being less reductive in your assessments of others' comments.

Easily H20, Halloween 2018, and 4. Yeah the stories are sporadic but they are good on their own. As back to back; 2018, Kills, and Ends. That’s what makes this movie so good, there no rhyme or reason as to why Michael chose Laurie. He’s just a random patient from a mental institution, who escaped, returned to his home town and fixated on a random girl. There no reason, he just did it. Not knowing is honestly more scarier to me.

If it does help answer the question a bit, not all horror has to be Halloween-adjacent, but it feels like it’s a lot due to how much bigger Halloween has become in the last century. Some of my personal favourites for winter horrors are Black Christmas (1974) and My Bloody Valentine (1981). They’re absolutely fantastic slashers for their time, I would avoid watching their remakes first, if you were ever to watch them.

Now to answer your question about horror movies and Halloween. Put it this way non spoilers in like 99.9 percent of horror movies that takes place on Halloween. Those movies have nothing to do with Halloween itself. Halloween is just a background setting a day the events of the movie happens on only. As actually movie writers an directors have said on audio commentaries an other bonus features for movies. Inorder for the movie to be about a specific Halliday the movies. Events have to center on an focus on the actual rules and traditions an mythology an lore of that Holliday. If you remove those rules and traditions an mythology an lore of that Holliday. If you still have a movie then its not about that Holliday. Like in this movies cause John Carpenter himself said its not about Halloween. Its about a psychopath that escapes a mental hospital an stalks and kills people. Nothing about that is about the rules and traditions an mythology an lore of Halloween. So you apply that to all movies now here is a movie. That is actually about Halloween itself its called Trick R Treat 2007. Because every single thing in that movie is about a rule or tradition or the mythology or lore of Halloween. If you remove those things from Trick R Treat you have no movie. Non spoiler but in the Terrifier movies 1 an 2 they happened on Halloween. But part 3 takes place on Christmas so clearly the Terrifier movies have nothing to do with Halloween. Because the 3rd one takes place on Christmas an its a continuation from the 1st movie. That just shows an proves my point a horror movie. Is a horror movie but they tend to be grouped together an called. Things like Halloween movies just because they are horror movies. When their stories have nothing to do with the. Rules and traditions an mythology an lore of Halloween. So don't believe everything you read or hear about a movie. You have to look at the actual story being told in the movie. If it's about the rules and traditions an mythology an lore. That goes with a specific Halliday then its about that Holliday. If the story has nothing to do with the rules and traditions an mythology an lore. That happens on that specific Halliday then its nothing more than a background setting only. This comes from years of listening to audio commentaries an watching other bonus features. For all kinds of movies like Christmas movies an so on not just horror movies.

First literally and figuratively forget all of those bs rules from the Scream movies. They don't determine who lives or dies this is literally and figuratively. Backed up on every single audio commentary an other bonus feature. For every single horror movie the writers an directors. Clearly say it comes down to peoples area awareness. If they are bisy doing something else or thinking of something else. Like for example having sex or thinking of having it. As shown in this movie they won't notice the killer. Then drinking an using drugs it takes away from the area awareness an it slows down. Reaction time only wich can lead to ones death then any time any one is alone. It can lead to onse death regardless if they say I will be right back. So those rules are bs it comes down to just pay attention to your surroundings. Don't do anything that slows down your reflexes life us drugs an drink. Along with any time one is alone they are more open to be attacked. Now for some facts about this movie directly from the. Audio commentaries from the Standard Blu-ray version and the Shout/Scream Factory Collector's Edition of the movie. With John Carpenter himself he says the original name of the movie was The Babysitter Muders. It happened in the spring or summer or something like that. But they changed it to Halloween because they noticed a lack of horror movies. That takes place in October so they just changed the name to Halloween an put some pumpkins an things in the background. To make it fit in with October John Carpenter say Halloween is a background setting in this movie. It has nothing to do with Halloween its about a psychopath killer. Who escapes a mental hospital an stalks and kills people. Thats it nothing more an nothing less it has nothing to do with Halloween its just the day it happens on. Now non spoiler but its important to know. John Carpenter only planned on using Michael Myers in this movie only one an done. You where never supposed to see or here of him ever again. So this movie was supposed to be the last you see or hear of Michael Myers. Because John Carpenter hates sequels because as he says on the audio commentaries. If you make a sequel you have to give answers to why the person or thing does what they do. He never wanted to give any reason or answers for what Michael Myers is or why he does. What he does he wanted it to be a completely mistory. As he said on the audio commentaries it was fate in his movie. It was fate that put Laurie at the Myers house where Michael seen here. It was fate that her friends where seen with her. Then the ones that got killed it was fate because they were not paying attention to their surroundings. Because if they whore they would of clearly seen Michael Myers. Walking around an Anne would of noticed that the car door was suddenly unlocked. So fate decided that they die so it all comes down to fate an bad luck in this movie. Non spoiler but it was a year after this movie. John Carpenter got a call from the movie studio they said we the movie studio. Are making Halloween 2 its going to be about Michael Myers we are going to make it with or without you. But remember that you are still under contract with us. So that's one key reason he worked on Halloween 2 because if he didn't he would have. Broken his contract agreement with the movie studio an faced legal issues as a result. But let's just say John Carpenter hated working on Halloween 2 an he still hates that movie. Because as he said in sequels you have to give answers to things. That's the basic key background of this movie. Along with why things happened in it. Along with why the sequel was made against John Carpenter's wishes along with why he worked on it.
