it was one of the practical parts of the story of kamtza who made the blemish knowing the jews would be unable to sacrifice the emperor's gift and would see that as an act of rebellion orthodox jewish tradition believes that god had ordained the destruction for other reasons and this was just part of the story but not a real reason as such
