Like, take for instance, as absolutely horrible as the majority of Michael Bay’s Transformers movies are because the two protagonists, Sam Witwicky and Optimus Prime are some of the most hatable of all (Sam was a misogynistic racist because he treated women like property the same way he did to robots by calling them “cars”, but Optimus, on the other hand, was just a serial murderer, even when compared to the average Decepticon), they don’t happen to be the worst of the worst if only for its strong production values. As for Titan AE, on the other hand, it sure gave people new appreciation for the films Don Bluth made in the 1990s (even the weakest ones that are all not part of the Anastasia duology of the late 1990s).

It is possible to make a character in it for themselves to eventually turn around and go from scoundrel to hero with a heart that is learning to unharden. What would you call that kind of character in a sci-fi adventure film? I would call them Han Solo. To me Kale is a mix of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo in the sense that he is young, naïve, and also in it for himself until a point is reached where he does start to care about more than number one. Kale isn't as developed as either character, but he just always seemed like an unlikeable discount mesh of both characters. Here's the thing: This movie is one I would occasionally watch when I was a kid back on VHS and some parts of it I still like, but I've soured on some other aspects of it as well. I will say that given how little time this film had to be put together I would say getting what we have it's not that bad. It's not good, but it's not bad and it's interesting in a few places.

I liked Titan A.E. but I agree it's far from perfect, and I wouldn't have hyped it up as much as other commenters did. All other criticisms aside, I still find it weird that the girl got shot, and all they did was look her over and say "she just needs rest". I don't recall that they even did anything to treat the wound, they just said "sleep off a space gun wound", and even said it as if the guy was totally overreacting. I mean, she did look like she was on the verge of death, I think he has reason to act concerned?

Hey RaisorBlade! First off, this is my first time leaving a comment on any of your reviews after having to enjoy your content for nearly a few years now. Anyways, this might be a long post here (I apologize in advance) but I just want to say that I had definitely grew up with this film when it first came out and I remember seeing it for the first time on VHS back in 2001 when I was 7 years old at the time and so I would eventually end up having to watch it on repeat over and over again as it would become my most favorite animated film of my whole childhood; therefore - becoming a part of the early cult following/fandom during that time. In fact, I even owned a novelization adaptation of it and I still have it with me to this very day (along with my first fanart drawing of both Cale and Akima that I drew inside of its front book cover) and I also once had a CD soundtrack of it back then. So as I got older into my 20s and decided to look back at my old childhood favorite like some years ago (mid-late 2010s), I was initially shocked to find out during my research that this film not only became a box office bomb but it was also responsible for causing the Fox Animation studios to get shut down permanently along with ending both Don and Gary's careers since then and I absolutely had no idea how to process that piece of revelation there as it really got to me personally at first but then it took me awhile to finally realize that just because both its production and marketing had a negative reputation back then doesn't mean that I don't have to enjoy or appreciate watching this film despite its flaws and especially doesn't mean that I'm either stupid or have bad taste in movies whatsoever - most films (especially underrated ones) are all subjective to everyone's own opinions depending on where we're looking for in them both good and bad (pros and cons). Not only that but I even learned that there are still cult followings to this film online based on some of the other movie reviews here on KZbin that were a bit more positive or on any other fan websites and so apparently I'm not alone in this. So yeah, after hearing out both the pros and cons from other people's criticisms on this film, I would learn to just accept the fact that this film wasn't all that perfect than I used to think from my childhood's perspective back then due to my lack of critical thinking skills as a kid and my nostalgia bias as an adult. Also, about your input on the Titan A.E./Treasure Planet comparison controversy, I was gonna plan on bringing that subject up if you were to not mention the fact that Treasure Planet was in and out of production for more than a decade despite Titan A.E. coming out two years prior to that film's theatrical release but either way I'm glad you did your research on that and brought it up to everyone about it. In fact, Titan A.E. pretty much started out as an idea on being a live-action film under the working title "Planet Ice" when it was in development in 1998 before Don and Gary were later both hired to direct this film and so I don't think there was any way that Titan A.E. could've been influenced by Treasure Planet or even the other way around for that matter since Treasure Planet most likely wasn't even brought up to the public back then for anyone to steal those ideas. So yeah, I totally agree with you that it was definitely all just a pure coincidence as they just took place at the wrong time (although two years apart but you get what I mean). Speaking of which, I was also thinking about bringing up the similarities between that situation and the other situation involving the Thief and the Cobbler/Aladdin comparison controversy back in 1992 as a good example since The Thief and the Cobbler was in and out of production for 29 years (the longest for any animated film in history) and so Aladdin was already in production for awhile before anyone outside of the Disney animation studio would acknowledged this before it was too late since it was scheduled to be released in November 1992 while The Thief film (still during its ongoing production) was also initially scheduled to be released around the same time Aladdin would come out. So because of the similarities between both of those films and wanting to avoid major competition, Warner Bros had no choice but to pull the film back further to a different release date schedule and instead have it come out in 1993 under a different movie title "The Princess and the Cobbler" and then being re-edited into a different film and later being renamed as "Arabian Knight" in 1995. Anyways, just to get to my point, because of the fact that those two versions were released after Aladdin first came out, most people back then thought that The Thief was a ripoff of Aladdin when it's actually far from the truth and especially the fact that some of its production crew really thought that Disney had deliberately stole their film's concept since the production on their film had been documented by the media over the years when in reality Aladdin started out as an idea by Howard Ashman back in 1988 as he took inspiration from the classic tale of Aladdin but also adding in a more 1930s-styled jazz broadway musical vibe to it; overall - the whole situation was also a pure coincidence as well. Actually, now that I come to think of it, Disney had pretty much had a reputation when it comes to controversies involving allegations of stealing other people's ideas such as the Kimba the White Lion/Lion King comparison and the Nadia/Atlantis comparison but then again I'm pretty sure they're just all complete coincidences in the end of the day. Maybe...maybe not...I mean, who knows? 🤷🏻♂️ Anyways, I just wanted to share my own thoughts and other fun facts/trivias relevant to this topic and I also appreciate that even though you may not like it as much as anyone else you were still at least being respectful about acknowledging other people's different opinions than yours even if you disagree with them. Like always, keep up the great work on your movie reviews dude! 👍 P.S. if you could, would you be open to consider on doing a movie review on both three different versions of The Thief and the Cobbler one of these days whenever you have the time? If so, here are those versions in chronological order: The Princess and the Cobbler (1993), Arabian Knight (1995), and The Thief and the Cobbler: Recobbled Cut (2013); which their full movies can be seen on KZbin for free by the way. Also, I don't mind if you would like to use my comments here for any of your future videos as an example if you want for whatever reason; you have my full permission.
@dustinschaefbauer24812 жыл бұрын
P.P.S. (1) as another small fun fact here and since you mentioned about Blue Sky Studios being involved in this film, Don was initially being offered about taking on making the film "Ice Age" as his next project (also initially starting out as a 2D animated film concept before later being switched to CGI) but he quickly turned down the offer; I mean just imagine what Ice Age would've been like if it was directed by Don and Gary instead in their style hypothetically speaking? (2) since you do movie reviews at home, I would also be doing the same thing too on my KZbin channel...except that I won't get paid for it than I initially planned long ago since I would rather do it just for the fun of it and to express my opinions as well. (3) and because I'm both a self-proclaimed KZbin film critic and a movie buff fan, I wanted to become both a film director/producer/screenwriter and a 2D animator someday as my future careers since that has always been my dream when I was kid and plus I was thinking about making plans on wanting to direct a biopic drama film about the life and career of Richard Williams including his involving with the long production history on The Thief and the Cobbler film; just something for you or anyone to look forward to someday in the near future (hopefully). Anyways, that's all I got to say for now and I think I'm done blabbering myself away...sorry lol.

Years later when I reached my 20s (somewhere between the mid-late 2010s), I would eventually find out that it had a pretty bad reputation back then and so I was confused and shocked at first til I later realized that it was ok if it had flaws in it after hearing out what everyone had to say about this film and just accepted it. Also, Titan A.E. was originally known as "Planet Ice" at one point during its early development before both Don and Gary took over the project and changed its working title and character designs for this film. It's not boring in the traditional sense, but it is a type of boring. One of the biggest problems is there are no rising stakes, or much of any stakes throughout the film. The beginning shows Earth getting destroyed, and from that point forward we see very little of what humans are going through or any suffering they're enduring. All humans seem to be surviving well enough, without fear of being hunted down, not under subjugation, and don't act defeated. If Kale were to die early in the film, or even if the Titan got destroyed at the end, all of humanity wouldn't really lose anything and their lives wouldn't be affected negatively. Our "heroes" don't really do anything heroic. Our villains don't really have clear motivations behind their actions. The humor isn't particularly clever nor well executed. Even the ending on "Planet Bob" wasn't very inspiring with its scenery. Just some jagged rocks, rain, a coastline and waterfalls, and some green shading to suggest maybe some plant life. It wasn't entirely boring, but it also wasn't good by most objective measures of a film.

@@Eidolon1andOnly I get what your saying but I still find it enjoyable enough
@Eidolon1andOnly2 жыл бұрын
@@Cody-to9kn I find it somewhat enjoyable, it's just nothing that was really original or spectacular, or even that memorable tbh. I understand why it is the way it is though, and I think it was a valiant effort behind all those involved. I'd say it's a slightly above mediocre film which has some good and even really good scenes. Maybe between 6-7 stars outta 10.

Yo Raisor, I know you're all wrapped up in Don Bluth's films, but I remembered you had reviewed on what you thought about Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal and I just thought 🤔 this. Why didn't you just talk about each episode, especially since they released the second season of this glorious dino masterpiece? I know you already knew this show was already gonna be amazing, but from my own experience of watching primal, I think you should see the second season and let us know your opinion on the second season. I'd love to hear it. ✌️ Out

The hero in this movie looked a lot like Dimitri from Anastasia. He's like him but with blond hair. Also, this guy is a jerk! He is too confident, insult the girl for no reason. It's hard to find him likable 😐 The action is ok in the movie but the 3D is really ugly. Really easy to see unlike in Treasure planet. She was pretty and it was cool to see a city on the moon. I don't remember any cool stuff from Titan a.e.

I know that I’m freaking late responding to this but if RaisorBlade doesn’t like movies that are boring, stupid, or make no sense then he would really HATE the Scooby Doo Zombie Island sequel that shouldn’t even exist. Maybe it’s just me but I despise this movie not because it insults the original(which it does badly) but because it’s the most pointless boring piece of crap that I have ever watched.

here's my question why did they need to make a new planet at all? why not settle on a new planet? why hasn't humanity already done that even before Earth Blew up? they clearly had FTL travel so why did they want to stay on Earth?

I respect your opinion. For me Titan AE is a masterpiece, the computer effects in the theater looked amazing and the story was very dark, but I admit that movie is not for everyobody, in few words, if you love Frozen and Disney stuff, you will defitinely find this movie boring, in my case I found Treasure planet too much childish, but thats because I saw Neon Genesis Evangelion, Those who hunt elves, Akira, etc before watiching Titan AE. I think Treasure Planet is Titan AE for Disney stuff lovers, this is my opinion only.

Dear Rasiorblade, Can you review Bratz the movie? It is by far the worst movie to me and is a movie where nobody put any effort into it. I have never even seen an animated film this horrible. If you decide to review it, be prepared! It will be the worst thing you’ve ever seen! -Collector’s stories
