Well, there were a few problems with the movie, most of them were internal around project management and politics. There were a couple of plotholes that also didn't help. However, I too think that this is a cult classic and was ahead of its time when it comes to the tech and sound engineering that was involved. Also, I love mantrins and akrennians.

Titan AE was directed by Don Bluth (and others), who directed the wonderful anime' The Secret of NIMH (1982), which had some very Conscious characters, and the screenplay was written by Joss Whedon (and others), who created the very Conscious Buffy series. But he is called "The Next Ghibli" for a reason. I really love his movies so far, albeit some / most of them are bittersweet.
