Oh yeah, Titan run is back! Also, Gleant out of France did an adaptation as well with their "Cimmerian" series. The art in that one is phenomenal! And I agree, the angle that Jim Zub took was really good. I love the retelling of famous stories from different perspective. Like how good would Star Wars be from Vader's or the Emperor's POV!? I would be interesting to see if and when he does any other REH stories in the same vein. I think seeing what Conan is doing in A Witch Shall be Born or perhaps a development of Akivasha in Hour of the Dragon is ripe for exploration. Anyways, I am looking forward to the last issue of this arch to see how this affects Conan's quest for faith.

For sure on the Gleant series. It is way better than anything Titan has squirted out.

Star Wars from Darth Vaders perspective...now THAT would be interesting! I'll track down Gleant's series 225 and thank you for the tip!

@@deeebeee1758 Well, that's unfortunate. Though art is subjective. But with that said, I would have to strongly disagree with you.

Great review, and you're not wrong regarding Doug Braithwaite's expressions for Conan throughout. Other than that, I enjoy his artwork. I've been enjoying Titans' take on the character for the most part.

I agree Jim. Overall I give Titan a thumbs up. And I do appreciate what they're doing. While I still have some differences (as to be expected) with some of the directions they go.

Spot on about those colors. Ablaze comics also put out an adaptation recently, in their series The Cimmerian. It was bad 🤣

Noted Sleepy! I'll avoid the Ablaze edition. I'm learning about numerous other adaptions in the comments section. I'm a bit amazed so many other companies were able to license the story...public domain maybe?
@SleepyBookReader-6664 ай бұрын
@@GrammaticusBooks It’s weird. Conan is in public domain in Europe…so Ablaze reprints European graphic novel editions, but just doesn’t put the name Conan on the cover. Some of those Euro adaptations are great and some stink…

Hey, man, I am glad you covered this; it confirms my feeling that steering wide of Titan's Conan comics is just fine, I ain't missing anything. 😁I grew up with Conan the Barbarian and Savage Sword so I'm a spoilt Gen Xer, but when I first started looking at Titan's attempt at Conan I was not into it at all. Zub's take broke your number one rule right off the bat (also my number one rule) and the decision Robert De La Torre made to basically ape John Buscema rather than put his own stamp on the work was kinda weird and smacked of both necrophilia and desperation. Nothing I saw in this glimpse into these few issues looks all that compelling to me. On the plus side Braithwaite isn't tracing a dead artist's work, but he isn't bringing anything particularly exciting either. The story by Howard has a female villain using Conan's lust to draw him into a trap, so of course Zub has to fart around with the story to make the villain less of a villain, coz that's edgy... right? Why? More to the point, multiple comic versions of the story already exist so why do it at all? You know what I'd like to see, Grammaticus, tell me I am wrong here, I'd like to see Daniel Warren Johnson do a Conan story. I think that would rock. Anyway, too much typing. Sorry, dude. Rock and roll!
@GrammaticusBooks4 ай бұрын
I cannot say you're wrong DB! I too grew up on the outstanding original Marvel series and the Savage Swords. The greatest graphic novel art (art and story) ever put down on paper. And that's a TALL order for anyone to live up to. Titan is trying hard to please the fans while doing their own thing. Zub, and Titan, do listen to fans reactions. Along with making changes to appeal to the fan base. Which I appreciate. But you bring out some good points with Atali's motivations. If you go down that rabbit hole, then it creates some inconsistencies in the story. Such as, why did she call on her father in the issue to kill Conan if she's attempting to lure him into a tryst? And why did she call on her father a second time to save her from what she originally was seeking? Great comments DB! I think bottom line for me is, I'm grateful Titan is keeping Conan alive. Potentially brining him to a new audience. And trying to make a decent go of it. Because there are a lot of companies out there that would happily eviscerate Conan if given half the chance. Stay Frosty my friend (see what I did there with Frosty...Frost Giant...ah I'll shut up now!)

As much as i love Doug's work, I've got to agree that Conan's face often just doesn't look quite right. Almost as if Conan's had a stroke in the past. A small quibble in an otherwise still great comic
