This is an amazing video. Many thanks for bringing this to us. I use tipped tools because of the results. I also buy HSS tool steel and make my own inserts. I make my own tool holders. ZAR 5..00 ( SA Rand ) versus ZAR 1,250.00 per tool holder. Rand to the Dollar rate 1:14 Rands. I rebuild machines that have been scrapped and new ones as well. I have just overhauled a machine they stopped building 15 years ago. It works too 1000 divisions per mm. Its error is 1.5 division + -, so the heat factor is 5 to 7 divisions when cutting metal. This is stabilised by using coolant. If you chuck out older manufacturing systems and rely on new technology to replace them, then you will be at the mercy of them sooner or later. I will have to say this though. By all means, teach youngsters to push buttons. But teach them to work on the older machines as well. Because if anything happens to the software and the electronics that run the new wonder machines. Then you will be back in the stone age. Kind regards and greetings from Africa.
@superdupergrover98573 жыл бұрын
Also these old machines are still useful even by modern standards. Sometimes you don't need or even want a high power CNC. That and the Bridgeport style milling machines are astoundingly flexible. With the right (albeit unusual) setup, you can machine on parts _larger_ than the milling machine. Can't do that with any CNC machine I've seen.
@firestarter50383 жыл бұрын
@@superdupergrover9857 yeah but old machines can't compete with new ones. I can out machine multiple machines because of table size and HP. 120"x320" cutting zone 48hp spindle

What machines does Kennametal use to test their tooling?
@bluesbastard816 жыл бұрын
I worked at a place called Clap Dyco that was bought by kennemetal , I just ran a manual machine grinding diamond tools for cutting Honda piston od's and ring grooves , it was very tedious and boring to me . But they made some crazy toola and had some very , very , very , complex insert grinding machines that measure / probe in process . They had alot of then at over 1 million dollars A PIECE for those machines . Part of the reason tooling costs so much. Very cool but not for me , I like making actual tools and parts , but that's just a personality trait .
