I think she had a connection with cars before the accident. In the opening scene, she was humming along with the sound of the gear shifting/motor which upset her real father. To me, that showed the beginning glimpses of her connection with cars and lack of connection with her father/other humans. And this is actually what caused the accident, which made her feel closer to them since she was then part titanium also? I don't know, just a bit of stream of consciousness.

I saw this at my local festival (which was packed minus the seats in between for distancing) and my god was that an experience. One of the most interesting movie going experiences I've had. The theatre was silent during that batshit crazy ending scene. I absolutely loved it but some others definitely did not. First Raw and now this? Julia Ducournau is on a roll.

I love this movie. After reading more reviews on Titane, a lot of consensus says that the main theme is unconditional love. Its one of those movies I think will get better and better on repeat viewings since you can interpret the story in different ways.

I am French, and in France the movie has divided a lot. He won "Palme d'Or" at the Cannes Film Festival and many people went to see him, but he was less enthusiastic than "Raw". It is a body horror movie but it is very violent and the end has divided. Vincent Lindon (a very famous actor in France) is an excellent fireman and the lead actress is amazing. "Titane" is a really interesting movie. Anyway thank you for this review on the film. (sorry but I don’t speak well ^^)

I appreciate the intentional focus on visual story... stunned. Personally, I love when a writer can replace lame exposition with such provocative visuals. I strive to accomplish the same effect in my own work. This film offers a certain graphic intensity, which seems only fitting that it is yet another artistic novelty of the French. Titane, to me, is an extremely effective reveal of where society stands regarding our collective global maturity which seems to be growing evermore precocious with each defining rotation we make towards the finite existence which patiently awaits. Bravo!

I had the same response too when the movie ended. WTF! This movie is wild. Lots to unpack. This is my current favorite film of 2021 along with Saint Maud. There are two more films that I have to see this year: The Feast and The Sadness. Have you seen the red band trailer #2 for The Sadness? If not, do NOW! Holy crap.
@arilith5043 жыл бұрын
I went to see this yesterday after wanting to see it for ages. I was not expecting to feel kind of warm, wholesome but sad at the end. I really love how Julia portrays familial relationships. The sisters in Raw. The 'son' and dad in this. Just beautiful.
@sourcherry233 жыл бұрын
I just love this film mostly because, as much like Raw, discusses the dysfunction of families in a horror lens. This one I liked since it focused more on the physical and psychological experience on motherhood, as the female lead experience it in the trope of body horror. The juxtaposition of Vincent Landon's character (as the perspective of a father longing for a missing son) makes the third half an climactic catharsis with an emotional payoff.
@colmobrien95583 жыл бұрын
I am SOoooooo happy that you spoke about this. It is by far my most anticipated film of the year. I couldn't wait for it to come out. Hated it. I found it quite boring, a little nonsensical, which I wasn't prepared for and isn't the film's fault. I've been waiting to watch this one since I knew it was going to debut. I loved Raw so much so I couldn't wait to see what was coming from her and MY GOD. I just finished watching it (like literally 10 min ago) and don't know what to say, but it's funny how the first thing I did was looking up to see if you reviewed it and here I am! Honestly, I loved it. It's different from Raw but still so Ducournau. Body horror is probably one of my favourite subgenres of horror and Julia Ducournau displays it in a way you can relate somehow, it's not just cheap and free body horror, you know? It has so much emotional and conceptual depth, like in Titane. I rated 4.5/5 on letterboxd but maybe it's because i'm a sucker for everything Julia Ducournau does.

I agree, I felt that switch too. It’s still excellent and Vincent Lindon was fantastic but it does change in a way that’s just a bit different to what you think the movie will be. If you look at the area where the titanium was placed in her skull, it’s directly above her right ear. That’s the right temporal lobe, which is the area that controls emotion, impulse control, and the ability to detect social cues. She probably already was somewhere on the spectrum before the crash (she was humming to the sound of the car) but I think the crash exacerbated this. Might be the reason why she kills impulsively, is unable to form human relationships, and generally feels no emotion or shame.

I got the sense that at the beginning, after the accident, the main character lost all empathy as part of brain damage. Much of this picture can be defined as metaphor to how meaningless relationships can be, and that as the main character grows close to someone, they become afraid and must destroy it. In other words, it could very much be an internal struggle of someone who is searching for a way back to their core.

Hi Emma, I Just watched Titane Early a.m. Sat June 11, 22, & It IS the Strangest, most Unique & Crazy movie I've ever seen! I did Not hate it, as I found it very engaging, Unique & captivating, despite I Don't understand what point or points it's trying to make.🤔 Also in first half of the film I Hated Alexis as she was a Psychopathic, heartless serial killer who killed Her own parents for no reason, so the actress who played Alexis/Adrian was Excellent in this role, as was the actor who played the firefighter who thought she he was his lost son. I liked the 2nd part of the film better, as she began to care about her Firemen Dad figure, & toward the very end I began to feel a tiny bit of sympathy toward her, & I felt A lot of sympathy for him. Thus I feel Titane was very well-Acted & engaging, tho I'm not sure I'd say I "liked" it but I am glad I saw it.

Spoilers disregard this text - - - - - - - - - I think it’s the fact that the car entertained . And the car saved her from the incident. The trauma probably drew her to this conclusion that she should love cars. She isn’t a robot I think having sex with the impossible is the fantasy. It’s also her flaw and some of her drive. Because I think she had a detachment to people because of her dad. The fire fighter needed a son because he felt less fulfilling as a protector and as a father. They completed each other and it was very cathartic What raw didn’t have that I liked. Their is discovering your identity and actually helping someone even if you aren’t the best person

I was really excited about seeing this film but accidentally got a bit too loaded in advance and so it just sort of happened at me... I was in tears by the end, but couldn't figure out why - I think it was just the massive visual/audio overload combined with the emotion of the performances of the really seminal climax. I am going to try and see it again. SPOILER TALK - The film felt filled with metaphor and allegory, and at times I think the literal interpretation of what was happening on screen was heavily skewed by the objectivity of the narrative from the protagonists perspective (did she really get pregnant from the car, or was there some other unseen trauma?) - themes focusing on objects of male desire as well as the masculine fragility of attachment and denial... The titanium is an intoxicating element and the protagonist has become a chimera, on one hand a combination of the sensuality of the flesh and on the other hand the mechanical, material fixation of right-brained men and their motors (somehow intuiting that she is both the flesh and titanium they crave). But as the film progresses the spectrum or chemical balance of these elements changes, the protagonist becomes monstrous in appearance and also completely enchanted by the mechanical, material and creation. The focus on the body work of vehicles and the bodies of people. Specifically many of the vehicles featured are restored classic cars, cars that have aged well... ageing being another process of change which is certainly a strong theme. You really smash your analysis of Mise En Scene and particularly lighting. Wonder if you've had some training as a lighting engineer?
