I just love the parallel to the first episode, when the fairies are trying to tempt Chise. She reaches out, then grabs her arm with her other hand and says no. In this scene, Elias is also reaching out, then grabs his arm and says no. They really do think the same way.

Alright, Elias. This is the one part of the series I really like you. You actually learned to care about someone else's feelings more than your own, which means you're finally learning a key part of being mature: empathy. It probably would have come to you a lot sooner if you didn't hang around fae all the time... Titania, on the other hand, can bugger off.

@@theoneandonly9775 I wouldn't say Humans don't know it, it is more along the lines of. We are a weak species, in body, mind and heart, empathy is something that takes a lot of strength. So most Humans only give it carefully. And only to people close to them. If we would give it to everyone we would all break. We would burn out and end up dead. You either learn to limit yourself or you will rush until you break and become something horrible. I think there is a reason for the saying "the road to hell is paved with good intentions".

The meaning of this scene changes completely if you actually know anything about Morrigan. Or rather *the* Morrigan, as she/they are actually called. And no, that's not one of those tumblrite gender pronoun things. The Morrigan is sometimes depicted as being three sisters instead of one entity. No matter the form she/they take, the Morrigan is always associated with war, death, fate, and sometimes vengeance.

Whenever she is mentioned it is usually not in a good way. Even the immortal ones (the old Celtic gods) didn't like her. The mother of the sad children of lir was deathly afraid of her. Makes her punishment all the more fitting. Needless to say, when she mentioned the Morrigan, it certainly got my attention. The Fairy folk were always those that you had to be extra cautious around and respectful around. It doesn't take much to understand why she doesn't like the priest. The truth hurts.

Wendigos are strongly acosiated with cold climates/winter and starvation. 2 things elias lacks, it also dosent explain the character's mutiple forms or hos thorns&shadow motif

CheshireTiger Elias story began in the winter. He was hungry and lindel fed him. He also admitted to eating humans before which is how one becomes possessed by the wendigo spirit. And his transformations can be attributed to his spirit/magic probably. Even Titania says he’s definitely human and the other fae see him as some hybrid bastard creature.

I think he's a leshy, which is a Celtic fairy diety of the cold winter forests (like when we see Elias's origin). Sometimes portrayed with horns (like elias), a leshy is known to lead astray travellers (a trait he shares with the dark one chort, leading people to believe him evil) but he has a more neutral disposition towards humans. He is associated/transforms with/into wolves and bears (transformations elias seems to share, as well as his predatory skull face). He is often with a wife as well (Chise fits right in) and sometimes has kids. He can also change his size as he sees fit. Alternate names all seemingly circle on woods master, forest uncle/mother/father, or "he of the grove". This ties in much more nicely with the celtic Fae lore of the anime (whereas a windigo isn't), explains his ties to Titania and her reference to his being a child of hers, explains his power and abilities, explains his middle of the line relationship with humanity, and explains why he chose Chise. Fae, especially if the Celtic variety, tend to be tricky over malicious but folk lore detailing accounts of fairies eating people aren't unheard of.

@@cRnVNu It seems really ambigious. He only looks kinda like Wendigos, but many aspects do not fit him at all. He was also found in Scandinavia so if anything, he should be more closely tied with Nordic, Germanic, Old English or perhaps Celtic mythology no Native American one
