57:16 These are sea blast shields, these are used when a window breaks at sea. These have a "porthole" in them because they are protective screens for the bridge, but you still have to look out. At that time there was no such high-strength safety glass. But, the screens are still used today, because there were incidents where a swell (monster wave) simply dented 10cm of safety glass (MS Bremen)

They're still technically shutters though. They were installed after Olympic's maiden voyage at the request of Captain Smith. We're both right, as they would be raised during severe weather in case one or multiple windows shattered. I would imagine they would also be raised preemptively though.

I think the Lounge furniture is a glitch with the textures, the furniture in the previous version is accurate.

Your walkthrough was great! I didn't realize there was a cabin open midship on C Deck, so now I have to go back to see it, haha. You had asked about the two rooms forward on A deck with the blue carpet. From what I understand, they will be furnished eventually, but were included in their unfinished state to provide a neat view forward over the well and foc'sle decks.

There's actually another room that I missed but that's because I couldn't remember where it was. I'll try to put it in the night tour video. As for the rooms on A deck I thought it seemed a little odd to just have empty rooms like that lol.

very nice exploration and very nice narration 👍 (also the convo between Ismay and Smith in the reception room wasn’t about lighting boilers or getting to New York early; that’s all dramatization. the real conversation was just Ismay being excited about how well the ship had been doing so far.)

the cabin connected to the private promenade is called the millionaire suites one belonged to Mr. Ismay and another man whos name escapes me but he is well known. Yes, the two promenade-included millionaire suites were owned by J. Bruce Ismay, the chairman of the White Star Line (port side) and Charlotte Wardle Cardeza and her son (Starboard side) On C-Deck, there were also two parlour suites, but this time without promenades. Isidor and Ida Straus stayed in the beautiful starboard side suite, whilst the port side suite on C-Deck was unoccupied.

Now if we could get a free roam shipwreck version that would allow Titanic fans to conduct their own deep dive expeditions to the wreckage and explore the debris fields.

To say the fittings and appearance of Titanic was "standard" is a huge inaccuracy. Titanic was considered by the press and by White Star Line literature to be by far the most luxurious liner to ever set sail in her day. Her fittings, upholstery, and design was not seen on other liners in her day as you stated.
@rothgamez2 жыл бұрын
That's not coming from me though, that's coming from the leading Titanic historians currently.
@srosenow982 жыл бұрын
@@rothgamez I think personally (coming from studying the ship for over 25 years) that a lot of the current crop of "leading Titanic historians" are nothing more than revisisionists of history. It was well documented in White Star Line literature, and even in the press back in her day, that the furnishings of Titanic's first class spaces was unrivalled and never before seen on a passenger liner in 1912. It was even documented that for Titanic's standard of luxury, her second class spaces were the equivalent of first class on smaller vessels and even earlier White Star Line ships. Her third class spaces were the most luxurious even, and many amenities in third class on Titanic just didn't exist on other liners in 1912. I also say they're revisionists because they now write and claim that many events didn't take place during the sinking, in spite of testimony saying they did. For instance, the current crop of "revisionists" as I like to call them, seems to state that no call to go astern took place. They base this claim merely on the fact that fireman Frederick Barrett's testimony only stated an "all stop" call took place. Mind you, the indicator lights in the boiler rooms would never have had a "Full Astern" indication (we know this based on photos of Olympic's boiler rooms and photos of boiler rooms in other liners), yet we know from the British testimony that 4th Officer Boxhall was coming onto the bridge at the time of the collision and stated he saw the telegraphs set to "Full Astern" and he specifically heard officer Murdoch tell Captain Smith he "put it hard a-starboard and ran the engines full astern..." In my opinion (and based on experience in court), that you don't dismiss the testimony from one man who specifically saw things and testified about them, and then dismiss them as though they never happened, just because of the testimony of another. And then comes the testimony from two passengers in the British inquiry saying they saw an officer shoot two men and then take his own life. Based on the testimony of those passengers and where they were standing, it can only be determined that it was Murdoch. These "revisionists" make that set of claims merely based on the fact that James Cameron had to apologize to the descendants of Officer Murdoch and to his home town, nevermind the fact that when Cameron produced his film, he based many historical events of the sinking based on testimony. Just my adjusted-for-inflation $.02

@@srosenow98 I've taken the time to read your novel and now it's my turn. First, I've studied the ship since 1996, so over 25 years as well. Second, I'm sorry but I don't trust anybody's word other than the historians since they do know what they're talking about. The team making this game (Titanic: Honor and Glory) are constantly updating the information as they learn. I think just about every Titanic historian available is working with this team to make sure any an all information they give is as accurate as possible. As far as the main issue goes, Titanic at the time was the latest and greatest. Of course White Star would boast about everything being the apex of luxury, they want passengers. They want their new ship to seem like it's the most incredible thing ever created. I'm not saying she wasn't luxurious, she absolutely was, but Titanic didn't break a lot of new ground. Olympic did that. But if you look at other ships around the same timeframe, you'll see much of the same from grand staircases, to domes, furniture, fittings, and so on. One example would be the SS France. BUT, to be fair to you (and everyone else) I could have worded what I meant a little better. What I was talking about in the video was trying to disprove the myth that Titanic had gold and marble everywhere and the whole thing was pure opulence. The truth is Titanic (in that sense) was pretty standard for that time. That's what I meant.
